  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

Great location! Close enough to walk to any shop or restaurant. Jones street is beautiful, even in the snow. We really enjoyed our 3 nights here. It was clean, quiet and had everything we needed. The communication with the owner was excellent as well.

Nice unit with everything you will need on beautiful Jones St. in Savannah. Location is excellent and walkable to many historic landmarks, restaurants and shopping. Parking was ideal as well.

Exactly as it is titled. The apartment is fresh and cozy. It had everything we needed. The location was awesome for experiencing the historic district and Jones street is lovely. Off street parking was appreciated.

What’s not to love about a place on Jones Street! The home and neighborhood were beautiful. Clean, comfortable and exactly as described. The bonus was the private parking space behind the property. Would definitely stay here again.

Just as described! Great location on Jones St., (really beautiful street!) easy free parking. Good location for walking around Savannah, and trolley stop is close. Discount coupon in the apartment if you want to do the hop on/hop off. Extremely clean apartment and comfortable furnishing. Great bed! AC works great- and ceiling fan in bedroom keeps it extra cool. No windows in bedroom, so no early sun wake-up! Quiet neighborhood at night- construction a few doors down during the day, but I wasn’t there to be bothered! Coffee, sugar, creamer and drip coffee maker. Britta pitcher filled in fridge waiting for you. Communication great with owner. Highly recommended place to stay!

Strong smell of paint and stale, musty air the 2 nights we stayed there. There was an air purifier but it wasn’t working. Should air it out before renters check in would have been nice.Property was clean, washing machine and dryer were good incentive and some toiletries. Free parking was a plus. Quiet neighborhood.

Great home!

This was our first stop on this vacation. The apartment was cozy and perfect! It had everything we needed and then some. Coffee/creamer/sugar, laundry, etc. There was a book on the table with restaurant recommendations which was super helpful! The filtered water pitcher and ice trays were a nice and welcomed surprise! They responded to my messages promptly and answered any questions I had. They accommodated an early check in and rented us a pack and play for our baby. I would absolutely stay here again. The street it's located on was so beautiful and almost everything we planned on seeing in Savannah was all within walking distance..it was perfect. Also, having a driveway to park in was the cherry on top!

Savannah is Beautiful!

The property was great on ground level and private parking! The neighborhood was beautiful, a perfect spot. Friendly neighbors who were very welcoming! Would stay again. Highly recommend the hop on hop off trolley tour!

Excellent location

We stayed in an adjoining unit on the property. The unit we stayed in was very clean and very well stocked. This property is in an excellent location on beautiful Jones street. Easy walk to grab morning coffee and pastries. We walked to River Street/district, City Market, The Cathedral of John The Baptiste and Forsythe Park and many other beautiful squares. Communication with property managers was excellent. We quickly learned the included parking space is gold!!

Perfect apartment on Jones Street

We loved this one-bedroom historic apartment located on Jones Street. Very nice and up to date interior. Pictures accurate, quiet location, comfortable bed, nice size bathroom and kitchen area. Added bonus was the off-street parking. Jones Street is really one of the most beautiful streets in America! Great restaurants within a few blocks. Wonderful parks and sites to see all easy to walk to from this location. We would definitely recommend this property!

Wonderful Place

The location was great, within walking distance of everything we wanted to see in Savannah. The apartment was exceptionally clean, well decorated, comfortable and homey. Photos are 100% accurate. The host provided speedy responses to the one or two questions I had. Off-street parking was a plus and the apartment felt very secure as well. I will be dissapointed (but would totally understand) if this apartment is not available on future return visits to Savannah.
