I’m writing this review at the request of VRBO after having to file a complaint.

We arrived at the property very late and so it wasn’t until the second day we really started to see how dirty the property was. Beer cans behind the hot tub, water bottles and trash around the hot tub, broken step, broken lounge chairs, pot holes that were more than ankle deep at the sea wall, an outlet without a plate cover in the bedroom, broken closet doors, couches that were terrible, a sagging master bet up on blocks, smashed food in a drawer, mold in the shower… we spent hours cleaning. While cleaning we found Nicorrete patches and gum in the dresser in the master bedroom, prescription pills under the bed, and a bottle of used KY Jelly. In the master bathroom we had 4 squares of TP in the master bedroom and a bar of used soap in the shower.
I reached out to the property owner, even had a 20min phone call and shared photos. I was told the “couch was unacceptable and would be replaced the next morning.” He did not seem to be as concerned about the cleanliness as I was and said, “a cleaning person is never going to clean the property as well as you or I would.”
After no one showed up to replace the couch, I reached out again. I was told they were “diligently looking” but “couldn’t find a couch anywhere in the county.”
I had reached out to the property owner ahead of time to make sure the heater was on in the heated pool, as listed. It was cold. We were told by the pool people we would need to flip the breaker in the garage because it’s not wired properly and that they had made the owner aware. They do replace the pool net as it was shredded and unusable.
Prior to leaving the property we put a cover on the outlet, fixed the hot tub step, repaired the closet doors, cleaned the entire place (including the food smashed in the drawer, threw away the personal items that were left behind, washed all linens, towels and rugs, and wipes all remotes, surfaces, and handles with Clorox wipes. I wanted to make sure things were a little better for the next person.
After requesting our cleaning fee refunded as well as a small portion ($336) of the cost for the condition of the property. The property owner replied with a threat of reporting me to Home Away and VRBO. At that point I contacted VRBO customer service and will be working with them directly.
