While we enjoyed our stay at Holden Beach, this home is best described as "adequate". It has great location to the beach, and if you have noisy kids, the downstairs section minimizes the noise.
The 2nd floor kitchen is on the small side, with the eat-at bar spaced too closely...there is about 28" between it and the fridge, making meals a crowded affair. The appliances all worked fine. There were plenty of utensils, dinnerware and silverware. Cabinet space was on the short side. The 2nd floor back door had a deadbolt that didn’t work.
1st floor: the kitchen is barely adequate - the refrigerator needs replacing (rust and mold). The A/C blows cold, but a large dehumidifier runs constantly to keep the humidity below 50% - its pretty noisy. All of the unit’s beds were adequate but dated and on the small side – all had cheap mattresses with thick foam pads to give an OK night’s sleep. The 1st floor main bedroom has paneling that is peeling away from the wall due to moisture penetration and there was black mold on the ceiling.
If you're renting or bringing a golf cart, there is no electrical outlet on the ground floor.
Issues while we were there: The laundry room carpet was soaked when we arrived due to a previous leak, the washer wouldn't work and needed repair (after we loaded clothes and it started filling with water - we had to hand wring them all out) and the control valve in the guest shower on the 2nd floor was extremely difficult to use. Now, I give Proactive Vacations top marks for their overall customer service and response times. We just wish we didn’t have to call them as much as we did.
We really enjoyed staying on Holden Beach and look forward to a return trip…just not to this property.
