The location was great, it has 4 separate bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, which was a plus. It is large enough to easily accommodate a family of five, and more. Also, there were not many steps to climb to get up to the unit.
Although there were 4 bedrooms, there was no family room or living room. The only “common” place for the family to sit was around the large kitchen table which took up a lot of space in the kitchen, making it difficult to walk around when cooking. Although crowded, the kitchen was fully equipped and had everything you needed to prepare and serve meals.
The website shows a great picture of Castle d’Angelo, but the only way to see the castle was to lean out one of the bedroom windows and look to the side. The normal view was of a Rome street. This was made more difficult by the heavy security blinds/shutters on the windows. We found they were nearly impossible to raise, which made the apartment dark and claustrophobic.
Right before our stay, we were told that the air conditioner was not working, and due to the weekend and holiday, we had a few days without it working. On our second full day, maintenance people came and tried to fix the AC, but later that day it was having problems again (and they accidentally turned off the hot water in one of the bathrooms). When the maintenance people came, mid-afternoon, they knocked on the door and immediately entered the apartment with the building doorman. My wife, who was near the door, did not have time to even get to the door before 4 men entered the apartment. We had no idea when they were arriving, so this came as quite a surprise.
Our last night at the apartment, I notified the property owner of the AC and hot water were not working (so that he could get it repaired before the next tenants arrived). However, he sent a maintenance person at 9pm to look at it. The man rang the bell (which I did not recognized as a door bell) and again unlocked the door and walked in to the apartment. This was too late in the evening for us, as some were already dressed for bed since we had an early flight the next morning. He did get the hot water working.
The apartment felt dirty, and we did not trust it to be clean. The bottoms of our socks got dirty walking around. There are pull cords just hanging by the windows where there used to be drapes.
We liked the location, but overall, we felt uncomfortable in this apartment.
