"I was really looking forward to my stay at The Candlesticks. However as soon as I entered, I began to have my doubts. The bar area, where the owner received us, looked particularly shabby and it smelt musty. It was 3pm (an hour after checking-in should have started) and the room wasn't ready. It wasn't such a big deal, but it was another warning sign. I was in a single room, which made a certain saying about a cat spring to mind. "This was a 1-night stay for work. I was in the Castle room. Car park was free but small. Lovely greeting from owner. Room was spacious as was the ensuite which had a roll-top bath, as well as separate shower. TV was okay as was WiFi. Included in the price was a breakfast, which was offered with cereal, bread for toasting, fresh juice, hot drink and cooked breakfast. I had the cooked breakfast. Room had a desk and chair to work at if required. Nice touch of a small fridge in the upper hallway...

"Excellent food in a lovely village next to a main road however when you shut the windows the traffic noise was vastly reduced. The close room was great value."

"Superb hotel full of character. Our room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We dined in the restaurant and were very impressed with the choice offered particularly for my husband who is coeliac and has to have gluten free. Every member of staff we engaged with were so polite and friendly. Our stay was an absolute delight."

"I liked our room it was large had every facility you could need available in it, the bathroom had a bath and shower and was so clean it glistned as was the main room. "We arrived early and decided to try the dining facilities. We were pleasantly surprised at the options and pricing. When the courses arrived the standard was excellent. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed with ensuite facilities, coffee machine with small fridge and milk as well as bottled water. The bed was very comfy. Breakfast had many options. From toast, cereals, croissants, Danish-style pastries to the obligatory full English. Which again was fantastic. We took our coffee into...
