  • The Top House is a beautifully appointed home set in an elevated rural location between Helmsdale and Brora, offering panoramic views of the coastline and out across the Moray Firth. This fully furnished property features an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, as well as a second lounge/snug. With three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms (including one en-suite), it comfortably accommodates families, golfers, anglers, or small groups.

    North Coast Holiday Homes is not located on site; however, we are more than happy to help if you have any questions.

    Tucked away in the serene Highland countryside between Helmsdale and Brora, The Top House offers guests a peaceful retreat surrounded by sweeping coastal views, rugged moorland, and the timeless charm of rural Scotland. With its elevated position, the property enjoys spectacular vistas out across the Moray Firth, making it the perfect base for a quiet getaway or a scenic stop along the North Coast 500.

    While wonderfully remote, The Top House is just a short drive from Brora, home to a beautiful sandy beach, the historic Brora Golf Club, and a selection of shops and eateries. Golf lovers will appreciate the opportunity to play this traditional links course, which is accompanied by stunning sea views. For a more relaxed round, guests can head north to Helmsdale, where the 9-hole Helmsdale Golf Club offers not only classic golf but also foot golf, making it an ideal outing for both serious players and family fun.

    Helmsdale is also renowned for its salmon fishing, being home to one of the first rivers in Scotland to open for salmon fishing each year—the River Helmsdale. Anglers travel from all over to try their luck on its productive waters during the early season.

    Nature enthusiasts and walkers will find the area rich with opportunities for outdoor adventure. The region boasts a variety of hillwalking and coastal trails, offering breathtaking scenery and a true taste of the Highlands. One of the most popular routes in the area is the John O’Groats Trail, a long-distance walking path that stretches from Inverness to the far northeast of Scotland, passing through Helmsdale and offering remarkable views along the coast.

    The Top House is located in a peaceful, rural setting, making it the perfect retreat for those seeking a quiet and private getaway. Due to its remote location, we highly recommend arriving by car or ensuring access to one throughout your stay, as public transport options in the area are very limited.

    The roads leading to the property from the A9 are single track, so please drive with care, especially at night or in poor weather conditions.

    There is ample private parking available at The Top House, with space for six vehicles. An EV charging point is available on site; however, please note that payment is required in advance for its use.

    Surrounded by nature and with very little light or noise pollution, The Top House offers guests a truly tranquil Highland experience.

    The heart of the home is the open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge area, thoughtfully designed to offer comfort and function. The living area features comfortable seating for up to six guests, and expansive windows framing the stunning views. The dining table comfortably seats six and is positioned near plug sockets and strong Wi-Fi, making it a great spot for remote work or relaxed meals with a view.

    The modern, fully equipped kitchen includes an oven, hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, and all essential cookware and utensils, providing everything you need to prepare and enjoy homemade meals during your stay.

    In addition to the main living space, The Top House offers a second lounge/snug/tv room – a perfect quiet space for reading, board games, or enjoying a glass of wine by the fire in the evening. The television also comes with a full Sky TV package, including Sky Sports, so you can enjoy a wide range of channels, live sporting events, films, and entertainment throughout your stay.

    The property has three comfortable bedrooms, each hosting up to two guests. The master bedroom, located on the first floor, features a king-sized bed and an en-suite shower room. A second bedroom located on the first floor is fitted with two single beds, and the third bedroom on the ground floor offers another two single beds.

    There is also a family bathroom with a shower-over-bath, and a separate WC on the ground floor for added convenience.

    The Top House also hosts a utility area for guest use, equipped with a washing machine, dryer, and ample storage space – particularly useful for storing golf clubs or outdoor gear.

    Outside, The Top House offers private parking for up to six vehicles, and there is an EV charger on-site available for guest use (payment required in advance). Guests can also enjoy an outdoor firepit with seating, perfect for relaxing evenings under the stars. For a touch of fun, there’s an elevated swing offering fantastic views, as well as a viewpoint just up the hill behind the house, complete with benches where you can take in panoramic views of the surrounding area and out to the Moray Firth.

    Although rural, the property is ideally positioned for exploring the North Coast 500 and is just a short drive from Brora and Helmsdale, making it the ideal location for those looking to explore the local area, play golf, visit the beaches, and much more!

    Whether you're enjoying a peaceful retreat or looking to explore the local area, The Top House offers the perfect blend of comfort, views, and Highland charm.

    When travelling to The Top House, we strongly recommend that guests either have access to a car or carefully plan their public transport routes in advance.

    Please note that while Lothmore is now serviced by Uber, that availability may be limited.

    The available public transport options are limited to bus services (Stagecoach or Ember) and a few local taxi companies, which can be difficult to book at short notice.

    Stagecoach buses will stop at Lothmore on the A9, but please be aware that this stop is an approximate 15-minute uphill walk to the property.

    Ember buses will only stop in Brora, Portgower, and Helmsdale, which are several miles away.

    There is no train station in Lothmore. The nearest ScotRail stations are located in Helmsdale and Brora.

This place is perfect. Beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, very cozy and comfortable. You could just sit and admire the amazing view all day but there are loads of great walks and places to go in the surrounding area. One of these places that you don't want to leave and wish you owned it.
