Unbelievable historic Inn

This is one of the absolutely nicest places we have stayed at in a long time. If you love the charm of a historic Inn with a bonus of amazing dining this is the place to stay.

As always a great stay. Breakfast was Fantastic! Be aware that the Jefferson room gets hot, without a thermostat. Bar is NOT open on Sundays for that pre-dinner drink.

We went to the spread Eagle Tavern and Inn for an overnight stay for a special birthday trip. We had never been there before but had found the information on the Internet very unique and interesting. Upon arriving at the property, we were greeted with a very friendly desk attendant, that checked us in and showed us to our room, which was the Madison room. The room and bathroom were very clean. The room was absolutely gorgeous with a fireplace, antique furnishings and the unique bathroom. There were also special touches that the Inn took to make you feel at home. There were mints left on the bed, complementary bottles of water and chocolate chip cookies to enjoy. We had reservations for dinner in the tavern to eat there that evening. The service was wonderful and the food was excellent. The restaurant staff went above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and also provided interesting information about the tavern and it’s history It was encouraged for guests and restaurant patrons to walk around the Inn and explore the three floors. Around every nook and cranny, there were secret doors or interesting hallways that led you to another part of the Inn. The basement offered its own history as you walked through the halls of once an underground railroad. We would definitely recommend this place for accommodations and for dinner while it gives you the ambience, a rich history and a unique experience that you will never forget.

If you’re into historical dining and stay, this is it! We had the best dinner followed by the best accommodations. The bed in the Washington room was so comfy!!! We enjoyed looking at the old books around the room in the cozy sitting area.

The place is beautiful and food is very good and upscale. Breakfast is included in the morning. The layout of room and dinning areas also gorgeous. Highly recommend for a quick getaway

Outstanding stay

This place is a gem! Our dinner and complimentary (free, freshly cooked) breakfast were both amazing. The staff was beyond helpful, kind, and attentive, and we enjoyed all there was to see. So many details have gone into making the tavern and inn so interesting, as well as welcoming and comfortable. It was a great overnight getaway. We’ll be back!

Staff and food was very good . Our room had no hot water and most of the light bulbs were burned out and the creamer for for coffee for the room was very old, it was butter consistancy also we found this to be very unsafe that we were left there all night with no attendant there.

We loved the historical aspect to this property - a multi-century home that was lovingly restored and which contains many personal mementos and portraits of the previous owners. It was like stepping back in time. The hamlet of Hanoverton, and small nearby town of Lisbon are perfect for evening walks along the historic homes. Very beautiful part of the world!

This place is unique. The history is interesting and we definitely feel the Jefferson room ghost! I had the best steak of my life at dinner. Every member of the staff has been sweet and accommodating. Its a bit pricey, but worth it. They even left cookies in the room for us

I had the pleasure of staying in the historic Inn and enjoying both dinner and breakfast during my overnight booking. I stayed in the cozy Van Buren Room and found it perfect for a quiet, relaxing night’s sleep after a long day of travel. Do make sure to book a dinner reservation as the aroma wafting through my room made me realize that I did not want to miss out on the superb meal that I wound up enjoying so much. One of the finest meals that I have savored in a long, long time. Every member on staff that I interacted with was so pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable and made me feel so welcome…Thank you all so much for making my stay so enjoyable.

This is our 3rd overnight stay at the Spread Eagle Tavern & Inn, but we’ve dined here about 10 times over the past 14 years or so. We always enjoy the service and ambiance. At least five fire fireplaces are spread throughout the dining area giving it a cozy and romantic feel. If you like history this is the place to be. Many political figures from over the past few centuries have visited here, and it was also a landing point for slaves traveling through the Underground Railroad. The food is excellent along with classy service. A true fine dining experience!

The beds were really bad. Both my wife and I and our two friends had beds that were very uncomfortable because they caved in towards the middle. Had to sleep on the very outside edge of the bed. Otherwise, it is a fabulous place to stay and dine.

It was very quaint and charming. Excellent food. Friendly staff. Very clean. The only thing I didn’t like is that the toilets were very low. Not disability friendly. Be prepared to do stairs. Washington Room on the third floor. No grab bars in the shower. Was able to navigate although slowly up and down stairs. Keep in mind this is a very old Inn. That’s the charm but needs higher toilets and grab bars for safety
