When we first arrived the house was lovely! Everything was so clean, we enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch with the fans and not having to worry about bugs getting us. The kitchen was supplied with everything needed to cook a meal. But our trip quickly went bad on Saturday while celebrating our daughters first birthday (an event) that we had notified the management company about before booking through VRBO. Never were we asked about the number of guests or anything after stating that we were celebrating a birthday on the booking. While opening gifts during my daughters first birthday celebration I was contacted and told that I need to pay a ridiculously large extra amount for the event that was taking place. Keep in mind that at the time the rules stated, “Any visitors beyond the number of guests registered in your booking will be charged a ____ per day fee unless an event was arranged in advance.” (An event was arranged in advance when I stated we would be celebrating a first birthday) This caught us extremely off guard. Being in a customer facing sales role for a large dealership I completely understand that when you provide a service or product, appropriate compensation is required. However, the product/service provider has a responsibility to be honest and provide a great deal of communication and integrity up front and before hand. It was never communicated to us when we paid originally if the event charge/ deposit was included on the invoice that we paid. Because we are good people and wanted to do the right thing as well as enjoy the rest of the day celebrating our daughter we paid immediately on Saturday after being contacted multiple times in the middle of the birthday party. I also understand our hands are tied at this point because we did the right thing. After reflecting on the situation, I feel the lack of communication and very blurry “event rules” from both management and the owners should be made clear and updated on future contracts so people like us can make decisions on where to rent ahead of time as the rules are not very straightforward. I DO NOT RECOMMEND renting this house if you plan on having any guests, much less an event. As even if you advise the owners of your plans, your entire day may be ruined by phone calls and email requests to pay an additional large fee.
