Peaceful and accessible
I agree with the many positive reviews this property has received. I can add that we chose it for its apparent accessibility, and that too was a big plus. One member of our party uses a cane and has severe activity limitations. We wanted a place where that person could still be "on vacation" despite spending almost all of their time at the cabin, while yet allowing other members of our party access to hiking and so forth. The deck, chairs, and picture windows are such that whatever the weather, you always have a lovely view and a comfortable place to sit and admire it. There is a little ramp for the sill into the cabin. The interior doorways are barn doors (not in the tiniest bit soundproof, alas) but which do open very wide. The shower has a wand attachment, and there is a shower bench next to the washing machine.I can't say if this would work well for a person in a wheelchair -- for example, there are no bars in the bathroom -- but for a cane/rollator situation I think it is excellent. We very much enjoyed the deep quiet, the many birds, and the comfortable beds. For a quick afternoon outing, we can recommend the Royal Clothiers thrift store in LaGrande, and the absolutely fabulous cardamom rolls at JaxDog café and bookstore. For spending time at the creek, we also recommend the day use area at the Catherine Creek park a few miles further down the road, for shade and ease of access.
