Our family of five had an excellent time at Matthews overlook. The house was fresh and new looking inside. Everything was clean and well maintained. The host was great to work with. We would definitely stay here again if we headed back to Watauga lake.

Amazing Time at the lake

We absolutely loved our stay at Watauga Lake. This cabin was spectacular with the views and our family absolutely loved our time at the cabin. The owners and managers were top notch! We look forward to coming back next year abd renting this exact cabin (home) again!!

Great communication about check in, facility and check out. Cabin was perfect for 5 adults. The only thing we noticed was a way to light the grill would be great. (Could not get the ignition switch to work)

If you’re looking for seclusion but still be close to civilization, this was it. I was by myself taking a few days away from the family for a reset and it was fabulous. Very little traffic noise, actually there was hardly any. And there were fireflies at night. It was great

Weekend Stay

We had a fun weekend at the overlook. It had a nice view and we also got a few inches of snow. The cabin is arranged very nicely. There is plenty of room for six people. This is a great place for two couples. Although I was turned off by the abrupt communication from the owners at first, the check in process is easy. Please note that the only way into the home is a set of steep stairs. Consider this if you have an older person coming with you. Also, the bedrooms are cold at night when the doors are shut even though the thermostat is at 75. For shopping or your personal needs, we brought everything with us, but there is a dollar general 15 minutes the house, and a drive into town for a grocery store, fast food, Walgreens, and a few small shops. It is 20 to 30 minutes, depending on your vehicle on the weather. The drive was pretty in the snow. I recommend a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

We enjoyed the stay

The property was clean and had an amazing view of the lake. The lake is a walk up and down a steep hill. We enjoyed the hot tub. We stayed on the fourth of July and loved the fireworks from the porch and hot tub area!

Nice cabin in the woods

Nice property and as described. Loved everything about it, with one exception. The deck kinda worried me with the sagging from the weight of the hot tub. As a home inspector, it’s concerning.

Christmas Vacation

The cabin was beautiful and clean. The view was gorgeous and the area was very peaceful. The only real complaint would be uncomfortable beds. Everything else was wonderful. Definitely would visit again.

Remote Lake House

The kitchen is very nice and the upstairs room was perfect for our kids. Please note that the nearest real grocery store is quite a bit away. Based on the remote location, definitely stop by a store before you arrive to pick up firewood and basics. If you are wanting to enjoy the kitchen and family cooking, you will need to pick up your own basics they don't provide such as Pam spray, olive oil, salt etc.

Nice place but needs updating

This was an ok cabin. It definitely needs updating. The beds were not comfortable at all. The grill barely worked half the burners didn’t work. We ruined a entire meal trying to grill. The hot tub had maybe 2 jets that worked. The dock was so far off we never seen or used it. Not exactly what we had expected.
