"My wife and I stayed for three nights at Bartles Lodge in August 2026. We were warmly welcomed by proprieters upon arrival. The premises were clean and comfortable, we opted for a continental breakfast and the selection offered was excellent. We ate two evening meals which were hot and tasty and well presented. "The bathroom had mold which had me sneezing. Historic doesn't have to mean unkept. Friendly enough but quality not quite there"

"Friendly guy but very busy so felt like I had to fit in with his work schedule .would of prefared cereals fruit juice ect set out to help yourself so you knew what was available . Room clean tidy but with no coffee making facilities although you could use a seperate kitchen outside main house to make a drink the donkeys are the best bit .the dirt track to the property is in poor condition but then the local road is bad ."

"Lovely friendly staff, always remembering that I stayed before. We get the room we have requested. We order a vegetarian roast which is outstanding, food delicious and hot. Plenty of parking. Depending where the room is you can hear the traffic going past in the evening & mornings but overall alovely stay. That's why we keep going back and also you have a choice of breakfast part of the deal."

"Excellent location - local bus stop just a couple of minutes walk away. Polite welcoming staff. A good choice of breakfast. Nice clean room and en-suite. Nice homely atmosphere. Will definitely stay again."

"Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast, we had a great choice of breakfasts, the full English was a bit too big for me, I couldn't finish it, I should have gone for the small English. Plenty of parking. I would recommend booking a table for dinner as soon as possible, this venue is very popular with the locals. We would definitely stay at the Recruiting Sergeant again."
