The home was a perfect place for two couples. We loved that the two “master” bedrooms were on opposite sides of the home. The rooftop patio is a great place to recoup from the day! The neighborhood is very quiet and just steps from the beach and a short drive to historic St. Augustine. Absolutely perfect!!!

The Mermaid Cottage is very quaint and has an historic element. It is a very quiet neighborhood. It is well maintained and very comfortable. Convenient beach access. The back garden/patio is beautiful. Kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed for our stay. Comfortable beds. Host was very responsive to questions.

My family of five had a great stay at the Mermaid Cottage. Everyone had plenty of space, enjoyed the homey beach vibe, and loved the close beach access. Deborah is a very responsive host. We would not hesitate to come back.

We had a wonderful time while visiting St. Augustine Beach. The Mermaid Cottage was very cozy and clean, the neighborhood was quiet, and the weather was perfect. We had no issues and would highly recommend to others looking for a place to stay.

Quaint, unique home for a short visit to the beach.

Although this seems like an odd lead in, they had all the light switches labeled. If you have ever been to an unlabeled house, you know the fun of trying to which switch is which. Kudos and thank you, to the hosts, for that. Mermaid Cottage challenges you to find the mermaids in the cottage. Plan to stay a week, to accomplish this, lol. The host(s) were wonderful and accomodating. And the listing tells you most everything you need to know about this home. Short walk to the beach, but note, the boardwalk to get there has stairs up and down. Only you know if that will be challenging for anyone in your party. You are close to St. Augustine city, nearby local eateries(too many to list). Head to the south and you will find unique places. You can swm with dolphins, at Marineland and enjoy the company of alligators at

Best Location

The house was well stocked and the layout was perfect for our family. Plenty of towels and extra pillows/blankets. The beach was a very short walk away. We walked to the beach in the morning and at night with our 4 and 5 year old. The beach is not crowded at all. There was a tide pool that the kids loved. My in-laws and our nephew came on our second day there and they loved it as well. We are talking renting both houses next year. It's honestly our favorite place we have stayed in as a family!

Perfect Location

I rented this house for my parents, my sister, and my brother and his two teens. I rented The Pearl next door for myself, my husband, my teens and their two friends. Everything was perfect! In fact, we never even needed to contact the owner for anything. This house fit everyone comfortably, and is in the perfect location - a quiet neighborhood with easy, quick access to the beach. I love that it’s not right in the hustle and bustle off of A1A near the pier (we’ve stayed in that area before and found the beach too crowded). This neighborhood is near a quieter part of the beach, but close enough to the busy part to make it easy to drive over their for the farmer’s market, Beachcomber, etc. The house itself is casual and comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the porch and looking at the plants in the gorgeous back yard. We appreciated the parking in the back and the front of the house. We kept the fence gate between the Mermaid and The Pearl open and just bopped back and forth between houses as necessary. If you have a bigger group, renting both houses was perfect- we could be together but also had our respective spaces if needed. All in all a fantastic vacation.

Disappointing vacation

Disappointing vacation rental!!!! Found floors to be filthy throughout the cottage, the bottom of our feet were literally black day 1 from walking around inside the cottage, bathrooms not the cleanest, cob webs on walls near bed in master, 2 dead roaches found in the hallway near back bath, and lastly had we known our view off the front porch was going to be of the 2 dumps directly across the street we certainly wouldn’t have booked!!!! We have booked thru VRBO for decades and never have felt so disappointed in a rental!! We had waited nearly 2 years for this vacation and quite honestly it’s so upsetting for us to reflect back on.

Charming house

The Mermaid Cottage was a wonderfully charming house. The homeowner was very nice and communicated with us well. Our stay happened to fall during Hurricane Nicole and she made sure we were comfortable staying there during the storm. It was very windy and wet but we always felt safe. The beach is awesome in the wind!

Lovely mermaid cottage.

My wife and I, son and daughter-in-law and their two children five and seven-year-old girls as well as one large dog Golden Greyhound mix... We all had a great time. The beach was easy access and the house was beautiful. The granddaughters appreciated the mermaid hunt and the dog the fenced in yard as well as easy access to long walks. We enjoyed the recommendations from the owners for restaurant choices. We all enjoyed the visit to fort Matanzas. We will be back!
