Cool and quirky
The architecture and setting of this home is amazing. It comes with 2 very friendly goats and dog. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it, if you are looking for something unique and off the beaten path.

Fun and unique house
My family had a great stay at Painted Pony Ranch! We loved the warm atmosphere, the sweeping views from the living room, and the close proximity to skiing at Snowmass…and the goats! The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were very comfortable, and we enjoyed having movie night and watching the Super Bowl on the huge screen in the living room. Kevin is a thoughtful host who took care of every detail!

Beautiful location near Aspen
Good location of property with animals wondering about-chickens, goats and other dogs! Would caution other dog owners that if your dog is not use to farm animals, it might be a bit stressful, same with small children. There’s a pound in the backyard, stay vigilant! Not a fan of NOT being able to lock either sliding glass door. It just felt unsafe, not just from humans but wildlife-bear intruders. Trash is not secure or in bear proof trash area! It’s right outside of unlocked sliding glass door. Unit is very exposed to outside with large glass windows with no privacy shades or curtains. It gets uncomfortably hot during the day. There is no over head lighting which is also strange and dark at night (only lamps scattered about). Property could use a good deep clean! View from windows would be spectacular if they were clean!! Kitchen and bathrooms were not clean on arrival. Dishwasher is not properly installed. Coffee maker was broken. As far as other VRBOs, the personal toiletries in bathroom and leftover kitchen spices and other food items were not expected or welcome. Not a standard VRBO kitchen or bathroom which is void of other people’s stuff. There is no TV or cable to unit. It would be nice to have the option of a TV in main room and bedrooms. Let visitors decide to watch TV or go without. Overall, this could be an outstanding VRBO in the Aspen area but it needs some TLC, major cleaning and updates to compete with other VRBOs in the area!

As described- fun getaway
Property is just as described. No surprises. We enjoyed Kevin’s hospitality, the dogs and goats. We wanted a place to get away from usual plugged in lifestyle while not being too far away from it and this place did the trick. Our 3 yo enjoyed the stay too.

Our perfect stay and wedding!!
Our stay here was AMAZING. The home is so cute and cozy. It was so fun having the chickens, goat and dogs roaming around, they’re very friendly so don’t be scared! The owner Kevin had great communication, he kindly allowed my now husband and I to have our wedding reception here and I couldn’t have asked for a better location. Our entire friends and family were in awe of everything. Kevin, thank you again for being so welcoming and allowing us to have our event here. For anyone looking to have an intimate party I highly recommend booking here! We’ll definitely be coming back!

Peaceful farmhouse
This property is exactly as it states! It was wonderful! Sitting by the pond or in the hammock to the birds chirping and friendly dogs and goats coming up for loving and petting was so relaxing. It was a great way to unwind. We were there for the mother lode volleyball tournament in Aspen and it was a close drive away!! Kevin was so great and friendly!!

Fun at the Painted Pony
The Painted Pony is in a beautiful setting. We and our dog enjoyed the property. We really like this location as it's close to Aspen, Basalt, and Carbondale with their gorgeous scenery and many hiking opportunities to burn off the calories from all the good food. The host, Kevin, is very helpful and we really enjoyed our conversations with him.

Perfect home for your stay in the mountains
This beautiful home was the perfect stay for my friends and me while on vacation to ski and see music in Aspen. Kevin is an incredible host and such a nice person. If I'm back in this area of Colorado, I won't be staying anywhere else!

Fun cozy stay
We loved are time at the painted pony ranch! Setting was beautiful and we loved All the windows. Was great to come home to a quiet remote spot and cook a nice meal. Proximity to snowmass ski was excellent. It took about 10 minute drive to brush creek lot and then the public transit from there up to ski is awesome. We loved the goats - they were so cute and funny! Oh and the host even left us a bottle of wine. What a treat! We can’t wait to come back!

Cozy country cabin
Fantastic country cabin about 10 miles to SnowMass ski resort. Fully stocked kitchen, goats on property made for fun memories for the kids. Only thing to keep in mind if you're not local, is that there's a very curvy and somewhat steep road that you must take to get to the resort. In the winter they apparently do not scrape the snow off down to the pavement like they do on the East coast (only some type of gravel/sand treatment), so prepare by renting an AWD SUV.

Nature Getaway
This was a great wilderness cabin for my family and I to stay in, while in town for a wedding. We love the outdoors and we love animals! It was like "glamping" and we wouldn't have had it any other way. Far enough away from town to be out of the city, but close enough to get groceries or explore easily. The only thing we would have changed is being able to stay longer!! We miss the dogs, goats, chickens, and horses already!

Unique getaway in paradise
We loved our stay in gorgeous Old Snowmass and felt right at home in this charming property complete with goats and chickens. Our host was responsive and the house had everything we needed. Close to both Aspen and Basalt and more spectacular hikes than we could fit in in 2 quick weeks! Would love to visit again.

Property is filthy
When we arrived, we noticed the property wasn’t clean, so we had to wipe down counters and surfaces including beard hairs on the bathroom sink, dust/grime/crumbs on kitchen counters, and grease on microwave. There was a lot of visible dust on the floors and other surfaces, the toilets had visible urine and fecal matter on the rims, and the tub still had grime from its last use. Even the dishes were dusty/grimy and required cleaning prior to use. It was obvious the unit had not been cleaned. I was embarrassed because we had brought my elderly parents from Kansas to stay there for a special trip we had planned for them to see the area. We complained about the lack of cleanliness to the owner via the VRBO messaging app. He apologized, said that Covid had caused the caliber of cleaning to suffer, offered us one complimentary night, and promised to Venmo us the refund the next day. Although we still felt uncomfortable in the unit, we felt this was a reasonable resolution because we had to do the cleaning ourselves. We thought the issue was resolved until we drove home after our two-night stay. That evening we received a hostile message from the owner accusing us of being scammers or “grifters”, what he said were “people who are willing to generate unpleasantness or threats of bad reviews in return for lowering the price of their stay” (quote from his message). Needless to say, we were shocked at the accusations, which were laughable if they weren’t so hostile and sinister. In over 35 years of traveling, we have never had such an experience with anyone, anywhere. Sadly, if the owner had just rectified the situation by sending a housecleaner, we would have been satisfied. It was evident from his message that he was trying to prevent a poor review with false accusations and hostile intimidation. He did end up sending us $100 of the $380 promised refund). We gave the $100 to charity. (We certainly have better things to do with our time than trying to scam a VRBO owner.) We will be filing a formal complaint with VRBO and include the full text of our messaging thread that we cannot include here due to space limits. Other things to note: not all electrical outlets work, and some spark when you plug something in. Also, the two entrances are sliding glass doors that cannot be locked. The goats are indeed charming, and the area is beautiful.

Just What We Were Looking For!
Wonderful stay! I booked this property for an associate on assignment for our company. It was exactly as described and exactly what our associate had been looking for. The host was great to work with and very accommodating. We could not have asked for anything more. Our stay was even extended at the last minute. Again, a wonderful stay!

Amazing property with some very friendly four-legged hosts
We stayed at Kevin's beautiful ranch for a weekend and enjoyed every bit of it. Kevin is a masterful host and made us feel welcome (not just thanks to leaving a bottle of wine). The property is stunning and a quiet retreat very near the heart of Aspen. Hamlet and Ophelia - the friendly pair of goats roaming freely on the property were a joy for our kids and an unexpected delight. We would love to come back in the summer and enjoy the grounds without a few feet of snow.

Beautiful Property, Great Host. Perfect for a Special Weekend.
This place is amazing. Close driving distance to Aspen Snowmass (where we skied). Great views and such a unique home. My girlfriend (now fiance) and I got engaged here with the scenic backdrop of the mountains and snow. This place is perfect for a special weekend and I would recommend the Painted Pony to anyone!

Charming and economical
Excellent location. Spacious. Unique. Very comfortable. Not your typical hotel suite. Helps to have a flexible attitude to deal with certain shortcomings. It’s a farmhouse!

Kevin is a phenomenal host! He made sure we were all settled and provided a vet the top nice touches including a welcome “kit” of food and drink to get our stay started right. His place is beautiful and just the right amount of hidden away while still being very convenient. Loved it!

Great Architecture & Beautiful Mountain Views
My wife and I enjoyed the fun, open layout of the home we stayed in on the Painted Pony Ranch. The large, open windows helped us stay warm as the weather outside grew colder and the pull-down projector screen was great for evening entertainment. Our dogs loved having the extra space to run around and the two dogs our host had on the property treated ours just fine! Plenty of amazing hikes were a short drive away and shopping at Snowmass Village and Aspen were just down the road about 20 minutes drive. We were able to find a grocery store and gym in nearby Basalt, only 10-15 minutes drive from the ranch. Having everything we needed and wanted to do outdoors so close was perfect for us. During the little time we were too tired for more hiking, high-speed internet at the Painted Pony Ranch was able to keep us connected and entertained indoors. Great place to visit!

we loved it!
we loved staying at the painted pony! kevin is a kind and very attentive host. we loved the location, old snowmass, and all the hikes that are available right outside the door. goats chickens (eggs, yum!) and dogs dot the landscape - the dogs very friendly. the goats like to get on top of the picnic table outside. very funny. if this kind of behavior is not for you, then find yourself a condo in snowmass village. we can’t wait to be back.

Animal Lovers Dream
Really cool place with horses, goats, dogs, chickens and a duck as your neighbors. The house needs a little "TLC" - not everything works, bathrooms are dark, windows need cleaning - and we would go back tomorrow if we could. Really enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back next summer.

Great small farm experience
We had an amazing time at Kevin’s property. The kids loved playing with the goats and chickens. It was just far enough outside of aspen/snowmass to feel remote but close enough to be at the various city centers in 20-25 minutes. Kevin had great suggestions for places to eat and hang out while we were there. He lives in another house on the property so is very available if you have any needs.

Perfect Colorado Escape
We rented The Painted Pony property for our son's 20th birthday. What a special place. It makes for a perfect mountain getaway, complete with starry skies and abundant wildlife. We were greeted by two sweet pups and two curious goats. The house has cool architecture and was clean and welcoming. It's ideal for family time, with a large kitchen/dining/living area and two bedrooms off the main area. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. The owner, Kevin, gave us some great tips for dinner in Basalt, which is worth a visit. Would definitely rent this peaceful, pastoral home again.Thanks, Kevin!

Beautiful and relaxing stay
The property was beautiful, including wonderful living and sleeping spaces, an amazing outdoor space and great kitchen. We went up for a long spring weekend of dog-friendly hiking and just quietly reading and relaxing. Goats and chickens roam the property and our dogs were definitely intrigued. Kevin is friendly, communicative, and made sure we had everything we need. He also has some well behaved doggies that were good role models for ours, We are figuring out when we can go back again!

A Memorable Retreat in Old Snowmass
The Painted Pony is a uniquely designed single family home with large south-facing windows on several acres in Snowmass Creek valley. The owner lives on the property in a nearby house. We loved the space, the views, the openness of the floor plan, the well-stocked kitchen, and adjoining fields covered in snow for our Retriever to frolic in. Easy access to skiing was only 20 minutes away with free parking and a very short walk to the Two Creeks lift at Snowmass after noon. Kevin is a great host and his dogs and two goats are super friendly. We definitely enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic property. Nice secluded easy going location. Our dogs loved the back yard and surrounding open space. Aspen and Snowmass was a short drive away as well as Basalt and Carbondale. This is a unique and beautiful location in the middle of the Old Snowmass mountain area. It is a pleasant place to stay if one is open to fewer of urban life comforts in exchange of the ranch lifestyle. It is a great place to stay especially with kids. The owner Kevin is super helpful and friendly.

Pre-holiday family gathering
We had a wonderful stay! The property is stunning, the little ranch house so charming, the host gracious and accommodating, and the farm animals such sweet treat!!!!! We loved Hamlet and Ophelia (the cutest little Nigerian goats). We enjoyed seeing the ranch in fall mode our first day and winter mode with a lovely snowfall by day two! A Beautiful Spot in this World
We loved our stay at Painted Pony Ranch. It’s an easy drive from there to a couple of our favorite hikes; the drive on Snowmass Creek Rd is gorgeous; being able to hike in the adjacent Windstar preserve was a real treat; and getting to know Kevin & his animals was the icing on the cake.

Relaxing in the country.
A four day stay started our vacation. The goal was to relax and soak up the mountain atmosphere. Could not have been a better choice. Free range eggs awaited us. We got to know the ladies who produced them, as well as other denizens of the ranchette. The eclectic decor, diverse reading matter, and unique architecture created a funky and memorable rental.
