We had a great stay! It was nice to be close to the beach, although, everything else is a bit of a drive. Just be sure to get all of the groceries you need on the way in so you don't have to run back and forth to the store. Food Lion is about 15 min drive and Walmart a little further. They do have a nicely stocked kitchen and the neighborhood is peaceful there at the end of the island, which makes up for the fact that restaurants are a bit limited nearby, too. We enjoyed carryout from the restaurant down the street with the long pier. I think Pier View Grill or something. We ordered online, left immediately, and it was ready when we got there (6 min drive). There was good shelling on the beach nearby, but not a lot of beach depth inland for many couples or small groups to lay towels or beach chairs out. You'll probably want to walk a little ways up the shoreline or park at one of the public lots a little way down. We did the latter when we planned to spend the whole day in the sand and it was lovely. The beaches are beautiful on Topsail all the way up and down the island. My kids, 21 and 14, chose to do the Karen Beasley Topsail Turtle Sanctuary tour over going to the aquarium. We've been to aquariums so this was a unique experience. We took my 73 yo mother also and we all really enjoyed it. It was very inexpensive, too, so we felt more inclined to spend big in the gift shop on fun souvenirs and to support the cause. Thanks for a great stay! You were terrific hosts!
