Partially dead cockroach, lights and fans that didn’t work, refrigerator missing a handle. Hosts changed us to a different room that had no privacy and grimy/tacky floors.

Ocean Beach Getaway

The location and the price was great. The place was clean with nice towels and sheets. The kitchen was amply stocked with needed utensils. A designated parking spot was great. A few disappointments were no controls to run the bedroom ceiling fan, no place to hang towels etc anywhere. Adding a few small tables next to the beds and bathroom to set out toiletries and such would be great. The property manager was not responsive but thankfully the owner was staying on site and he did get us an extra fan, replaced the missing hair dryer and tried to find a replacement fan controller. Thumbs up for that. The bed mattresses are overdue for replacement IMHO.All that said we would stay again there as it is very convenient to every thing in OB! Just a few tweaks here and there and it would nearly perfect.

I can't actually comment on the property itself as we weren't able to stay. I had the booking confirmed in VRBO but the owner somehow didn't have the booking on her calendar. When I initially booked the property, I had requested a cancellation and didn't receive a response. A few days later however, I reached out and let her know I no longer needed to cancel. I still didn't receive a response and since I still had the booking confirmed, I assumed everything was still set. I reached out to the owner several times in the few days before the booking as well as the day of and the owner communicated with me about check in details and when I would receive them - without ever mentioning that she didn't have my booking on her calendar. This didn't come up until CHECK IN TIME. I was AT THE AIRPORT picking my friend up when I was informed that we wouldn't have a place to stay because she didn't have my reservation on her calendar. I understand that things like this happen, but this should have been noticed in the few days before when I was conversing with the owner.I will say, VRBO took care of us and we ended up having a great time somewhere else.

Poor Communication

I messaged the host via the VRBO app when I arrived to see if I could check in early. After no response for an hour, I texted the host who replied with "Did someone tell you that you could check in early?". I replied saying that I had asked in the VRBO app but received no response. After checking in, I texted asking about how the ceiling fan worked and if we could stay another day. I did not get any response during the entire stay. After we checked out, the host messaged me on the VRBO app asking to rate my stay. When I told them that we were ghosted after checking in, they offered to comp an additional night, but I had already left town. When I asked if they could grant me a partial refund instead, they stopped responding in the VRBO app. Very unprofessional and impossible to get a hold of host which was disappointing as I have not had this experience on VRBO in the past.

Positif : localisation proche de beaucoup de chose sympathique , literie agréable , place de parking nominative , linge de lit et serviette de bain propre odeur agréable , cafetière plus dosette lait et café à dispo , barbecue table chaise sur terasse agréable .Négatif : bruit avion , trop petit pour 4 adultes , nombre couvert et vaisselle insuffisant , porte d’entrée non ajustée laissant passer l’air, wifi fonctionne aléatoirement , premier code d’accès incorrecte , aucune place pour ranger les vêtements , ménage pas au top , lumière insuffisante , pas de sèche cheveux , rien pour étendre les linge mouillé .

It was fine but with several hiccups

Honestly we were quite disappointed from the get go. The day we arrived in San Diego I called the phone number that was listed "if I had any questions" to ask if it was possible to drop off our things (it was pouring rain out) and to see if there was a coffee maker as we were stopped at a store to pick up a few items. The woman who answered the phone didn't let me ask her anything - first thing she said to me is "why are you calling this number? This is my personal number" I mentioned that it was the number listed on the message I received and she said well I don't know why they gave it out (not sure who they is), she was extremely curt and rude and asked me to message the listing. How were we to know that it was her "personal #" when it was the info we were sent? We had a lot of trouble with the door code but eventually got in. The place was clean but several items were in a state of disrepair - front door, lights not working, no switch or remote for the light/ceiling fan in one room, and the light outside the front door did not work so it was dark when we came back at night & hard to see to enter the codes in to enter the property. In addition (and not the property owners fault, but) the family staying next door to us were INCREDIBLY noisy, running up & down the porch/deck at 5am (sounded like it was over our heads) and throughout the day, kids yelling & blowing noisemakers at night & early in the morning.

Look at other reviews of this property on VRBO before booking. The horror stories from other travellers are true. The place has a mold issue, smells terrible, is nowhere close to the photos and the front door doesn’t shut properly leaving guests unsafe from easy break in or pest access. This property needs to be removed from VRBO / Expedia because it’s a gross misrepresentation as it is currently listed. Worst is the hosts attitude when we raised our issue and the way Expedia was unable to help us and the endless back and forth, per another VRBO review, for a refund. AVOID at ALL COSTS.

Pros: location, close to the beach, short walk to restaurants & shopsCons- Safety/sketchy door situation (see below)- Dirty floors - soles of our feet were dirty- bathroom sink was backing up- mini fridge had broken handle- selectively responsive host communication- Upon arrival, our door code didn’t work, host responded with a new code- Sometimes the door lock would say “unlocked” but it didn’t unlock- Once inside, we could see that the door was not the original door, and not the door in the listing photos. The new door had metal pull handles on it, unlike a normal door with a doorknob. It didn’t fit the door frame and had large gaps around the edges. The door frame had also been modified with new trim. It did not appear to be a professional installation.- Safety Concerns - We noticed the old door lying in the yard with a big chunk ripped out by the lock. We wondered if there had been a break in. - The host said the damage was caused by a previous intoxicated guest and offered to cover us going out for food and drinks. She said to send her the amount and she would refund us. - She never refunded us, and was unresponsive to these messages, despite being responsive previously. - Insufficient ventilation - we knew there was no AC, but nighttime temps were cooler (enough to need pants and light sweater) so thought it would be ok. The place doesn’t cool down, even with windows open and fans on. It was very hot. Something to consider in the hotter months of the year.

We stayed two nights

The space was tight but had everything we needed the cost was fair. The location was good for exploring San Diego and then making an early trip to the airport. We had a little trouble with the lock the first time but the host was quick to answer the phone and helped to fix the problem.

Do Not Book!

Buyer beware! The overall property was in a good location, but it was very hot. We arrived at the property to check in and noticed right away that the door to our unit was replaced so there was no way to get into the place. There was also construction materials all over the porch. It was obvious there was work being done to the unit and there was no way for us to get in. It seems like the property manager would be aware that we were checking in and the unit was not available. I messaged the host about the situation and we went to dinner. then messaged her through VRBO three additional times over the next 1.5 hours - no response. I found a phone number and called. Rebecca answered and said she would move us to Unit A and she would send instructions. She also said she would refund us a day due to the trouble. We got back to the rental and waited an hour before we were finally got the instructions for the second unit. It was not ideal, but I was satisfied. The short of it is that I have been ignored or strung along now for 5 weeks and never received a 1-day refund. I messaged 3 times through VRBO, texted 2 times, and called 2 times. I never raised my voice and was "disconnected" conveniently during my last call. Every time I spoke with the host she was rude. I called back and left a message and have come to the realization that I will not receive my refund. Do not book this property!

Misleading Property Description

BEWARE! We tried to stay but the heat was unbearable inside due to no A/C. It had to have been sealed up for significant time the way it felt inside. We arrived at 5:30pm, opened all windows, front door & turned the 3 portable fans & ceiling fan on. We messaged the host at 8pm after not being able to cool property to a tolerable temp to sleep. After not hearing from host, we decided to leave. When host finally replied she rudely wrote that property does not have A/C “as stated in the listing” & there would be no refund. Nowhere in the property description does it say “does not” have A/C. That info should have been stated, allowing us, the guests, to make the decision to rent or not. It seems the host KNOWS it’s a problem when there are 3 portable fans & a ceiling fan in about 400 sqft! Supposedly we are the only guests that have ever said anything about the lack of A/C. The host is completely unprofessional. It was over an hour the first time we messaged regarding the heat before she responded but amazingly she responded throughout the rest of the conversation the following day within minutes after sending a message to her. The host accused us of not vacating the property, saying we were “not honest”. Thankfully we took video as we left, locking the door on our way out. Do yourself a favor & find another property with a host that is professional & a property description that lists material facts so you can make an informed decision.

We stayed 2 nights wanting to be close to Ocean Beach. Everything went well. It is small, but nice. Offstreet parking was tight with a larger vehicle, but great to have.

Cute Cozy Space

My boys and I absolutely loved this space! I stayed there with my two teen boys and my 4year old and we all loved it! Beach is just a very little walk away and it’s also a walk away from the strip of local retail shops, restaurants, bars, etc. The host was amazing, communication was great and our messages were responded to in a very timely manner.

Only Ocean Beach

The Beach Bungalow is a great jumping off spot for exploring Ocean Beach. One thing to really highlight is the off street parking - worth its weight in gold. If bungalows didn't have their own parking you could circle the block for days or forever! The unit itself is just like the photos - very small - not a place so much to hang out but a great place for exploring Ocean Beach. Plus it has easy access to Mission Beach, Downtown, and Pt Loma. Super fun!

Small spot but good value!

The place is small but on a budget its great. If you are over 6ft the shower can be a bit of a challenge. The hosts were responsive and the place was nice and clean.
