The location/access to the beach and pool were wonderful. The home, however, was mold-ridden, musty, and in poor repair. We learned from a maintenance worker that the upstairs tub had been flooded by previous tenants and ran through to the downstairs bathroom and bedroom. I reached out to the property owner to see if an air purifier could be provided and got no response. The advertised beach chairs and wagon were rusty, broken and not usable. The area around the pool was littered with weeds and old cigarette butts. The experience was overall very disappointing and will not return to this property due to the mold problem and lack of upkeep to the home and property. Salvo, the beach and locals are delightful and will definitely go back for vacation!

The place was in a great location. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. The upstairs shower leaked to the master bedroom below. We messaged the owner, he sent the property manager and plumber over and we just stopped using the upstairs bathroom. When we were leaving we noticed that the kitchen sink was leaking below. Other than this the place was good but don't expect anything extravagant except the stereo which was awesome! We did have a great vacation!

Great stay and location

We stayed for a week mid-May, family of 5. Property was as described and pictured. Classic beach/lake house vibe. Plenty of kitchen utensils and appliances. New towels. Great pool with plenty of loungers. There is a very short walk over thru the dunes to the beach, right behind the house, the beach is very quiet and clean, lots of wildlife, crabs, birds....We visited some other beaches further north and this one was much cleaner and much less crowded. Maybe one group of people every 300-400 yards, so much space. This is right before the official season begins, would guess the neighborhood was maybe half occupied There were a couple of broken chairs on the rooftop, we laid down a blanket on the rooftop as we didn't feel comfortable moving the furniture to the top deck. Loved watching the sunrise and stargazing from the top deck and afternoons spent in the shade of the house in the pool. Bedding needs updating and dishes needed cleaned off before use, maybe first stay of the season. We thought it was a great location for visiting the Outer Banks and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. We would stay again. Thank you!

Family Fun in Salvo

Overall our vacation was a 5, but this house is more like a 3. The property has great potential, but has not been maintained. The pool was fantastic, but was surrounded by weeds and included a pile of broken and rusted pool toys. The pool loungers(3) were all broken and unusable. It was nice to have direct access to the beach, a short walk over the dunes for a day in the sand. However, the fence door was not secure and with a dog and small child, this was a concern. The host was informed and was responsive, but the issue was not resolved. The house itself worked out great for our group with plenty of room to spread out inside and out. It could have been cleaner(walls and floors) and just needed more attention to details like clogged bathtubs and broken blinds. With a little effort, this property could easily be a 5.

Best House Yet

The house is perfectly situated and sized for us, a family of five, with a private pool and direct access to the beach. The interior is nothing fancy but clean and functional - actually nicer than what we saw in the pictures provided. It's clear that the owners are invested in keeping the house updated and were responsive to questions we had during hour trip. Overall, it was an excellent house to spend the week. We plan on going back.

Could be great!

Location was perfect! And we loved the pool tho it wasn't heated, but one warm day it was tolerable. While we were fans of the house, the furnishings seemed haphazard and convenient. The furniture doesn't fit the house and the linens were of poor quality(think cheap hotel). But we liked the layout and design of the house.and the decks! I wish there had been a table and more visit-friendly chair sets on the many decks. We were able to cook no problems. There was no extra anything tho, not paper towels or toilet paper or trash bags. The hand soaps were nearly empty and no dish liquid or powder/pods. Not even salt and pepper. Some kitchen towels would have been nice also. I sound as if i am complaining however i can honestly say we enjoyed our time here and would stay again. Just want the owners to know it could be even better! One last thing- when we arrived, we found and envelope asking for a gratuity from the cleaner. I leave a tip for outstanding service. This was not. There was trash behind the nightstand, which i left, and there are crumbs in the silverware holder. Just doing a few things could make this house into a more comfortable home.

New to OBX

New mattresses were much appreciated. Property owner is making many efforts to improve this property. If you’re not familiar with the dune situation in OBX be prepared for crossing to be a challenge, not a reflection of the property owner just something I wasn’t quite ready for. Currently there wasn’t a good seating choice for older guests that need to put their feet up, again not a reflection on the owner just something I should have realized when booking, hopefully new living room furniture will be in the future. *house was no longer brown, but rather a beautifully updated turquoise!

Quiet piece of heaven!

Just what we needed! Centrally located between Avon/Hatteras and Nags Head. Easy access to the beach. The beach was clean and quiet. House had the basic amenities needed. They are in the process of updating and the owner was open with upgrades and work being done. It was dog friendly and we appreciated the fenced in yard! Looking forward to next year!

Absolutely loved our stay

We absolutely loved our stay in Salvo. This property was perfect for our family and we hope to visit again soon. The property owner is very friendly and responsive. My kids loved the lights in the pool and it was nice being able to relax in the living room and see the kids playing upstairs.

On the beach with a pool!

The house is located on the beach with a beautiful pool in Salvo, NC. The house is spacious with three bed rooms, two bathrooms and a full kitchen. It also has a washer and dryer which is perfect for a beach house. It also has a roof deck! The pictures are exactly what we saw when we arrived. We enjoyed our week in Salvo.

Much needed, wonderful stay

This was the perfect get away for my family. The house was very comfortable and this is probably the first vrbo I have rented that actually had decent TV service and reception (Thank you). The pool felt wonderful and clean and well kept. The beach was beautiful and not crowded. I enjoyed greatly being able to wake up and walk out through the dunes to watch the sunrise. In the same breath I was able to catch some amazing lightning from the storms which luckily rolled through in the evenings and overnight. There was great communication with the owners or rental management as they were truly wanting to make sure we had no issues with the house. I truly appreciate their concern on my behalf. The only thing I would suggest to future renters (no fault of the property/owners) grab your milk and eggs and other necessities before getting to the property. There is a run on those items with everyone else coming to their vacation rentals. The closest grocery is 20 min. South in Avon.

A great family location

Our family of six adults and one infant had a great stay at Family Affairs! In the morning we would take the short walk over the dunes and spend the morning on the non-crowded, dog friendly beach. Since it was a short walk, we would leave our stuff on the beach and come back to the house for lunch. After we had enough beach time, we came back to hose off in the outdoor shower and enjoyed the pool. The pool was awesome, a great size and blocked from the wind! The pool has a large enclosed area which was great for our dogs to enjoy. There is a nice deck, which gets shade in the afternoons, so it was great for eating dinner and relaxing outside. The neighborhood is quiet and the road is suitable for walking the dogs or taking the baby for a stroller ride. Two streets away is a bike path and an ice cream shop. Overall the house was well set up, spacious, and clean. We would definitely return. Thanks!

Family Affair, indeed!

This is our second consecutive stay at Family Affair and it was lovely! The new a/c unit with temp sensors was perfect and we were very comfortable. The house was very fresh and tidy upon our arrival as well. The trail to the beach is so convenient and everyone really enjoyed the pool. We knew there was no shade so we took a special sun tarp for ourselves. A pergola in the future would add that much more oomph for guests. The house is within easy driving distance for restaurants and mini-golfing, as well as other things. One of our daughters is relocating to a northern State due to a job change for her so getting to spend time with her, her husband and our grandson along with our other daughter and her family was extra special this year. This vacation and time with family was much needed as my father passed away in March of this year. He loved the Outer Banks and would have had a great time. It was definitely a pleasure staying at Family Affair and I'm sure future guests will also enjoy their stay there.

Time with the critters

We enjoy the area of Salvo. The beach is perfect and not too crowed. The house was very clean. Pool was most enjoyed after time at the beach.
