Close enough to the city, far enough away that it’s still country. This spacious 1,885-square-foot home has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, is decorated in warm French country style, and sits on acreage right next door to a working farm.
WAKE UP TO COUNTRY MORNINGS Wake up to birds singing outside your window as the morning sun filters through towering trees. Pour a cup of coffee and enjoy the quiet from the front porch swing while nature comes to life around you. Spend your evenings under bright stars, far from the city lights, listening to crickets, watching fireflies, and enjoying conversations that don’t compete with notifications.
LIKE VISITING GRANDMA’S IN THE 1990s For families, this is the kind of place that feels like childhood in the 90s. The wide-open yard becomes a playground for imagination and adventure. Kids can build forts, paint rocks, play hide-and-seek, create scavenger hunts, draw hopscotch with chalk, chase lightning bugs at dusk, toss a game of cornhole, and spend the day exploring the outdoors instead of staring at a screen. As the sun sets, gather around the fire pit to roast marshmallows and share stories under the Texas sky. For adults, it’s a chance to slow down, breathe a little deeper, and remember what it feels like to truly unplug.
THE FARM NEXT DOOR Our neighbors at the farm raise free-range chickens, ducks, and geese for fresh eggs, along with gentle miniature Hereford and Dexter cows and a donkey. Watch them wander and graze, or arrange a visit with the animals by appointment. Fresh farm eggs are available for guests who want them.
Something new is on the way: fluffy miniature Highland crosses are coming soon to the farm, the kind of cows you’ll want to snuggle with. We’re also starting a fresh garden behind the property, and we’re adding new activities at the farm next door, so there will be even more to enjoy.
COUNTRY LIVING, RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR A long, crepe myrtle-lined driveway leads you up to the house. Sit on the front porch swing or in a rocking chair and look out over the pasture. The back porch has a pasture view too, but the front is the best. The front acreage has pecan trees and a large magnolia right beside the master bedroom, and a big oak tree is just waiting for a swing. A pecan tree over 200 years old stands in back. The barn at the front of the property was built in 1894 by the McElroys, one of Ovilla’s first settler families.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS (SLEEPS 6) Primary Suite: A comfortable King bed with a door to an attached sunroom. The sunroom also has its own entrance on the opposite end, so guests can enjoy it without walking through the primary bedroom. The primary bathroom is a standout, with a massive walk-in shower with multiple shower heads (rain, standard, and wand) and plenty of space to relax after a day exploring DFW.
Guest Bedroom 1: A cozy room with a Queen bed, just down the hall from the primary suite.
Guest Bedroom 2: Another comfortable room with a Queen bed, also down the hall.
Guest Bathroom: The two guest bedrooms share a full bathroom with a tub/shower combination.

GOOD TO KNOW • This is a true country property surrounded by nature. You may occasionally hear chickens crowing, cows mooing, our donkey braying, or other farm sounds from the farm next door and nearby properties. Most guests find this part of the charm. • During warmer months, we recommend packing mosquito spray if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors. • Families are encouraged to bring outdoor activities for the kids, such as sidewalk chalk, outdoor games, scavenger hunts, sports equipment, or crafts. • You may notice a few barn cats around the property and neighboring land. They are friendly and used to people, but they are outdoor cats that roam freely and are not household pets. Guests with severe cat allergies may want to consider this when booking.
