We weren't able to stay in the condo that I reserved and paid for in October. I had emails confirming our stay, the most recent one just days before we arrived. That email said the host would notify me by 2 pm of the keypad code for entry into our condo. When we arrived for checkin I texted the host because I hadn't received the code. He then called and told me the condo was already booked. He said he had listed it on vrbo, as well as another site, but that he got very little result on vrbo, so he "really didn't pay any attention to it". He did refund our payment promptly, but we had to scramble to find another condo, and we were unable to find anything in the town we wanted to stay in. As a result, we spent our two week vacation in another city, which is not what we wanted to do. I will say that VRBO was responsive to our plight and subsequently reimbursed us for a hotel for the night that we arrived.
