In 35 years of world travel, renting everywhere, this was the worst experience. First off- The location on VRBO is NOT the apartment location. We thought we were renting an apartment in La Marais. A day before arrival the address was sent to us - and it is in Midtown Chinatown. Contacted the host, who said- It’s still a great location. Everything was in terrible shape - from the old, broken, dirty furniture and stained curtains to the cracked, peeling walls. Even the single light in the bathroom didn't work for most of our stay. The bedroom closets were completely unusable; they were half-broken and packed with old equipment left behind by the host, forcing us to live out of our suitcases.The kitchen had only one power outlet, making it impossible to prepare even a quick breakfast (You couldn't use the microwave and the kettle). The location is convenient with easy access to the metro, but is in a small alley directly above a few Chinese restaurants. As a result, whenever we opened the windows (no air conditioning), the place filled with heavy fried garlic and fish smell. When we tried contacting the hosts, their responses felt as if generated by AI. When we finally managed to get a concrete answer about fixing the bathroom light, they entered the apartment while we were out without informing us beforehand, despite our explicit request that they not enter without our knowledge.Then they held on to our security deposit for two full weeks "because it's policy"One to skip
