Welcome to Barley Harbour Lodge "Pheasant".
We are a Swiss couple and have been living in Newtowncashel on Lough Ree for several years.
With Barley Harbour Lodge “Pheasant”—a detached cottage set in a 2,500 m² garden—we offer you the opportunity to get to know this unspoiled region in the heart of Ireland. It’s the house next door to our Barley Harbour Lodge “Trout,” which we’ve been renting out since 2018 and has received 5-star reviews. This makes it ideal for two families who’d like to spend their vacations together but still want their own home.
There’s plenty to discover. Here, the pub is still heated with locally cut peat in an open fireplace, and the locals are always up for a chat over a pint of Guinness or a glass of Irish whiskey.
The house is in a very quiet location, just a 3-minute walk from picturesque Barley Harbor on Lough Ree. You can go fishing, take walks, ride a bike (on marked trails away from the main roads), play golf, or simply relax in the 2,500 m² garden surrounding the house.
The lodge was built in 2003 in a traditional Irish style with a stone facade and features high-quality furnishings. The two shower rooms were completely renovated in 2020.
In the living room, you can enjoy the cozy warmth of a blazing fire in the wood-burning stove in the evenings. Cozily read a book or watch a movie on TV. The lodge has satellite TV, so you can also receive many German channels.
The house is also heated by central heating.
It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator and freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee maker, drip coffee maker, electric kettle, glass-ceramic stove/oven/grill, and washing machine. From the large dining table that seats 6, you have a direct view of the well-kept garden and patio.
Thanks to its central location in the heart of Ireland, day trips to almost all of Ireland’s famous attractions are possible. Whether it’s the Cliffs of Moher, a stroll through Galway, a drive through the charming countryside of Connemara Nationalparks. Ja, or even a trip to the famous Giant’s Causeway—it’s all possible. In just one hour, you can reach various beaches along the Atlantic Ocean.
We’ve known Ireland for over 40 years and are happy to share our insider tips for excursions and attractions with you.
Dublin Airport is only 90 minutes away.
Of course, the region is also very well known among anglers. For example, the World Pike Fishing Championships are held annually on Lough Ree. Nowhere else is the chance of catching a one-meter pike as great as it is here. Furthermore, Lough Ree is no longer a secret among even the Irish when it comes to wild brown trout. The hatching of the mayflies attracts anglers from all over the world to Lough Ree every May and June to experience this unique spectacle and the chance to catch a trophy brown trout. Of course, perch anglers won’t be left out here either. This predatory fish is hardly ever targeted by Irish anglers, so the populations in the lake and its tributaries are correspondingly large.
If you’d like to try something different, you should take a fishing charter boat trip for deep-sea fishing in the Atlantic. We have contacts with skippers in Westport and Clew Bay and are happy to assist with reservations.
Internet, electricity, oil heating, and towels are included in the price. Final cleaning: €95.
