The house was wonderful, big, roomy, clean, each bedroom has access to a deck, the house sits on the beach so easy access! The kitchen is terrifically stocked with anything you may need.Great sunset views on the very top deck. All of us (a girls weekend) would come back to this house again.

Spring Break Stay 2025

The home is very nice, clean, and organized. Love the private access to the beach. We were not able to enjoy the pool (due to the season), but the hot tub was very nice and relaxing. We would definitely stay in this home again. Thank you for sharing your home.

Spacious Home on the Beach

We had a group of 8 adults and we really enjoyed our stay in this very clean and spacious home right on the beach. There is a huge deck along the back of the home, a screened in porch with a picnic table on the side, a small deck on roof where you can see the ocean and the sound, and a deck amongst the dunes perfect for watching a sunrise. The kitchen was well appointed with dishes but there were no seasonings, not even salt and pepper so be prepared if you plan on cooking. There were three single use packets of automatic dishwashing detergent but no detergent for handwashing pots and pans.

Perfect location

Suited our group of women who’ve been friends for nearly 40 years. The location was not too far from grocery and fun shops. Great sidewalks for walking. Bedrooms could use new carpet, and a furniture refresh. There was a problem with ants, but the maintenance crew was very quick to supply ant traps. Unfortunately the wind was too strong to actually enjoy the beach.

Beach vacation

Love Mermaids Lair! Fully equipped. Private. Overlooks the dunes with unobstructed views of sunrise and ocean waves. Stairs and walking ramps put you right down to the beautiful beach. Perfect property for family fun. The surrounding area is upscale, safe and close to all stores and restaurants yet private.

Great place

Fantastic place right on beach. My only minor complaint is that you have to purchase a lot of things you’d normally think would be included - dishwasher soap, garbage bags, toilet paper, etc. But we loved the location and the house was great.

Everything you need, nothing you don't

We went to the beach for the beach, first and foremost, and that's what we got! The house was exactly as described and shown in pics, nothing extra special but everything that you need. I had no disappointments about it at all and would recommend it, even stay at it again myself!

wedding weekend

Our daughter was married in Manteo. We housed the family for the weekend. Cottage was perfect for what we needed. very comfortable and plenty of room for everybody. loved being right on the beach. The only downfall was for the older folks. This cottage has a lot of steps. really great views of sunrise and sunset.

Great for everything but the incidentals

This is great property, 4.5 starts, except for 1 thing. The realtor/management company cheaps-out on incidentals, things like 1 bath set per person, 1 cheap toilet paper per, really cheap paper towels. For the nearly $1000/n in high season this is just unacceptable. The last thing you want to do after arriving on the beach is be worried about going to the store for clothes detergent to wash the 1 towels and wash cloth you're allocated.... doesn't matter they tell you ahead of time, it simply should not be assumed this is OK. When I'm paying more per night than a 5-star hotel, I expect 5-star hotel considerations.

Loved the property, it was in a great location. House was clean and very roomy. Right on the beach and close to restaurants. The only thing that needs a bit of updating is the coffee machine and the outdoor grill. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars.

2 Family Get Away

This house was a great size for our 2 families to get away together. Having 2 master suites is a great feature. The kitchen is well stocked and the large table ensures you can have meals together. It worked well to have a gaming table and a table to eat at. We also really enjoyed the hot tub since it was a little chilly. Definitely recommend!

Great winter getaway

The house was everything as advertised. Bedrooms were comfortable, kitchen was very well supplied, beach was easily accessible. We loved the roof deck where we watched sunrises and sunsets with our sons and grandchildren. Outer banks blue was very responsive to a couple of requests. We would definitely stay here again at Mermaids Lair.

Merfect Hideaway

Mermaid's Lair was a perfect get away. As advertised. Clean, neat, and well maintained. This is a great location. Closer to the beach than the photos. Kitchen updated and well appointed for a family that likes to cook. all things in working condition with 2 small exceptions - the Master Bedroom fan wobbles and some of the decking boards need replacement. A lovely hideout and would recommend to anyone.

Great visit!

We had a great vacation!! The Air conditioner stopped one evening - and the emergency crew went above and beyond to get us window air units within an hour and a half. Very fast response and much appreciated. The next day the house air conditioner was fixed. We would stay there again if we go back to Nags Head in future!
