Be aware that this neighborhood (Malasaña) is lively, thus loud - even when daylight hit you could still get some drunken partiers making loud noises. On one hand, the unit is conveniently located in the middle of the action - Fuencarral street - with lots of shops and restaurants all along. A short walk to Gran Via and anywhere else you want to go within old Madrid. It sits atop the San Ildefonso Market which was convenient whether for a quick bite or drinks at night. But on the flip side, it does come with the price of noise, even into the morning ANY DAY OF THE WEEK (Young Spaniards party daily as per our experience). The good news is that the main bedroom is located to the back of the unit, which minimized the noise UNLESS the neighbors next door were loud, since all sound from there was heard readily. Other than the noise, my only main complaint is the the TV was hit or miss, the signal would go away and some night just had no TV for no reason. The problem was not solved, although they did try. So if you like to watch some TV, be ready for some signal issues and maybe get stuck with couple of channels. A couple of minor issues, the key copies were not great and made it tricky to open the door (one copy more than the other) reported but not changed), some of the nice wood veneer walls were dirty with all kinds of fingerprints (subtle but took away from the overall clean sensation), the sliding door (main entrance to the indoor space) is very heavy, and there was a tinge of dampness smell in the main bathroom, just enough for my wife to want to use the other bathroom instead.
Now on to the good! Host rep greeted us and went over the property with us. The unit is accessible through less-trafficked Santa Barbara street which makes it better for unloading your baggage. Better yet, there is a parking garage right by the entrance in case you have a car, like we did. The unit is well appointed, modern and beautiful, with everything you need for your stay, including clean towels, soap, shampoo, etc, kitchen gadgets, etc. There are two AC units, one for the bottom plant, and one for the two bedrooms upstairs (didn’t cool as good on the main bedroom, but we moved the bed so that the cool air hit the bed directly for a better sleep underneath the warm duvet - no other covering provided). No bathroom downstairs, fyi. There is a sofa bed in the living room that was pretty good. A truly great thing was the bush-button rolling shades in all bedrooms an
