  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Wonderful!

My family and I (including the pups) loved our stay! The walk to the beach was so convenient and it was located on such a nice and quiet street. Would definitely stay here again!

Could be a great property.

This could be a cute house….it is desperately in need of updating; there is an old house smell that is likely from the old carpets in the bedrooms. The mattresses are ancient and very uncomfortable, and the headboards on two of the beds we used were very old, outdated and noisy. They were also propped up on PVC pipe. Not to mention the very old, extremely wobbly end tables in the queen master bedroom. The space is good, and distance to the beach, and OBX attractions, is great. However, the ant infestation in the kitchen is a huge problem. We texted the property manager about the ant issue and they sent someone in a timely manner….who just replaced the ineffective ant baits with more ineffective ant baits. What is needed is an exterminator. Frustrating that I spent money on a rental that was not properly maintained in that way. It was also extremely disappointing that the back deck outdoor space was unusable because the outdoor furniture cushions were literally dripping wet from the previous rain. Maybe a deck box to store them in if the deck remains uncovered? There was also sand on the floors when we arrived. (I found a vacuum and broom and cleaned it myself) And the directions for the tv were incorrect. Everything wrong with this property is an easy fix. Overall, we were disappointed in how it was maintained.

Great place to stay!

The Hidden Gem was perfect for our family stay in the Outer Banks. We rode bikes or walked into Duck every day, drove to Kill Devil Hills and Corolla for crabbing and walked to the beach. Loved our backyard games of cornhole, burgers and wahoo on the grill and eating on the back patio. Deer strolled through the backyard every morning to say hi. Truly enjoyable week.

Short walk to the beach

Property was as described for a group of 6 adults (3 couples). The 5 bedrooms were more than sufficient, and with 3 bathrooms (plus the outdoor shower), each couple had their own. Kitchen was big with plenty of island space and seating. The house was very clean, and was a 5 minute walk to the beach. We will definitely visit this property again!

Loved the Hidden Gem!

This Hidden Gem is in on a nice quiet road with beach access 2 minutes down the road. We loved the house! It was so clean and just the right amount of space for us with 2 master bedrooms on either side of the house with the living space in the middle. The kitchen was beautiful with quality cookware and dishes. It was stocked with games, puzzles, dvds, and even a dog toy! We would definitely stay there again!

Great week in OBX

It’s not much to look at from the street, but this home truly is a “hidden gem”. Two families of 5 (each with a dog) were very comfortable and the neighborhood was awesome for the kids to travel to and from the beach on their own. We truly enjoyed our stay and property management was very responsive and there for us the whole week.
