Good value for money - cheap & convenient location

This hotel offers good value for money. It is not magnificent, but it is cheap and conveniently close to the airport. There is no reason to stay at this hotel other than to rest before, between or after a long flight. The hotel seemed poorly managed (with a messy feel), but the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the room was excellent. The biggest drawback is that there is no complimentary airport shuttle, so one has to spend ZAR 100 each way to go to and from the airport if one does not have a car, and this cost should be included when calculating the cost of stay. ZAR 100 is the rate for a metered taxi or similar. Beware of the people in the arrivals area at the airport who try to force a shuttle on you, often at a much higher price and a longer wait. They can be quite insistent and aggressive, so just brush them off and find a regular taxi, which is faster and costs less. For the purpose of staying overnight between flights, this hotel is a good option and significantly cheaper than the hotels just next to the airport. Other than this there is no reason to stay there, as it is located in a semi-industrial area with nothing other than a few office buildings and warehouses. There are no drinks machines or food options in the hotel, but there is a McDonalds across the R24 highway, which is about a 10-minute walk. It is however not advisable to walk at night.

The Don Johannesburg Airport Suite Hotel

We had an overnight connection and stayed at the Don February 5th, 2011. The driver and all of the staff went out of thier way to ensure our comfort and enjoyment during our stay. They offered to make us food even though the restaurant was closed when we arrived tired and hungry. Breakfast served in restaurant next morning was quite good and very inexpensive. The rooms have been recently renovated. They are very clean and comfortable. I would definately stay there again. and would recommend it to anyone looking for and economical airport hotel.

Pleasure in Africa

This hotel was for a 3 star hotel surpassed. I could have thought it ws a 4 star hotel. The condition of the rooms was wonderful and ery luxuriouse. The staff where amazing and the decorations lovely. The only negative at all was the neighbourhood, being so close to the airport obviously it was very industrial. But once inside the hotel you wouldnt know or care! I would go again and reccomend this hotel.

Don Johannesburg - Close to Airport

Nice suites hotel. Little strong smoking smell, but after A/C on not a problem. Outside needing some repairs, but suites very comfortable with full kitchen amenities and three room set up very convenient.

Pleasant surprise

This was the best value hotel near the airport we could find and we were extremely pleased with the service and room quality. It's a 5 minute drive from the airport and you do have to pay for the transfer but it still worked out significantly cheaper than other hotels in the area. The reception area is a bit dated but we were pleasantly surprised by the massive newly renovated suite rooms - it seemed like a waste to only be staying for 10 hours or so! Large kitchen/lounge area with TV and large bedroom with comfortable king sized bed (also with another TV) and large bathroom with bath and seperate shower. Clean and quiet. Staff friendly and helpful. Wi-fi extra but not unreasonable. Would recommend.

Very comfortable room, staff very friendly and helpful, was glad to have internet available which we got without hassle, Hotel is in semi-industrial area, but that means after hours it was peaceful. Very close to OR Tambo airport, very easy to find. Room was kitted well, with all crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc

Inexpensive hotel nearby JNB. Great for staying overnight for connecting flights

I did careful studies on hotels nearby JNB airport before I booked this hotel on line. I stayed at InterContinental (cross the street from airport) before, but I wanted to stay at inexpensive hotel for overnight stay this time. Once you retrieve your luggage, you then call the hotel for pickup service (for a fee). Then you need to walk over to the bus pickup area near the InterContinental Hotel. We were picked up by a private vehicle (so remember to ask what kind of car will pick you up), and rode several miles to the hotel. It is in safe neighborhood and with gated entrance, but I would not venture out at night. Hotel was clean and spacious. Internet access was available for purchase. Food at the restaurant was not very good. I would recommend eating at the airport or elsewhere for meals. All in all it was a decent place for overnight stay (to catch flight next morning at JNB). It will be particularly good for a large group of people on limited budget.

Adequate at best

This hotel is basic. It is suitable for an overnight between flights but I wouldn't stay there any longer. The cab costs the four of us 150 Rand or about $25 and it's only 4 km from the airport.

It was a right choice to spend one night. Very close to the airport, very confortable room and very much sympathic south african employees at the hotel. The hotel also can indicate a taxi driver to get the travellers where they wanted to go. I decided to visit Nelson Mandela Square and it was a nice sight seeing around Joburg.

I stayed at the Don Hotel in Johannesburg airport room # 318 on Saturday 07 August for one night. I usually stay at the City Lodge but I decided to try something new. I was very disappointed with this hotel for the following reasons. • The staff were not very friendly • The elevator was dirty • Some of the hall lights were not working • An electrical plug in my room was not working for my laptop • The light in my bathroom did not work • The draws were falling off their rails • The sheets were the wrong way round and not clean But the main reason I was upset was that. When I asked for a tax invoice so that I can right off my expense I was told that They cannot give me one. I travel every week to Gauteng and need to get my hotel expense back from SARS.

Very tired hotel

Hotel very hard to find by car. HIdden just off the main road. Guy was asleep at check in when we arrived. Hotel is very very tired. we had a room at the back so had to go through near the kitchen with our luggage, past a leaking ice machine with water all over the floor and up a flight of stairs - no lift. room was large - one bed room and one lounge area but it was cold. only heating a movable electric radiator. bathroom large but to put it nicely - very tired too. We stayed during World Cup for 1 night and was very expensive indeed. Close to airport though which was the main point.

Very convenient to a overnight before departure

I had arrived from Cape Town to Johannesburg in the afternoon and wait one night to take my flight back home. It was a very convenient choice for me, cause the hotel is not only very close to the International Airport but even offer free shutle service. Excelent room and services.

Airport hotel

Nice, inexpensive hotel with basic amenities. Not for someone that wants glitz. Nice buffet restaurant. Good, full breakfast. Located in commercial neighborhood with no outside visual attraction. They are in the middle of renovation. Staff pleasant and helpful.
