We rented 3 different condos at this location on this trip, one two-bedroom (this one) and two one-bedrooms (a separate review). We are leaving two reviews, one for this property, and the other for an original separate two-bedroom listing that got turned into two one-bedroom condos for us. A bit before we arrived, we learned that one of the condos we chose was sold, and our joint party in that room was moved to a different room. Then later, we learned that the replacement condo was also sold. Therefore, our second condo reservation was split into two separate one-room condos, which worked out fine. The staff, especially Sabrina, timely kept us updated as to the status of our room situation.
Note that the historic Ilikai Hotel is split into three types of living: condo owners, hotel guests, and short-term condo renters.
This listing was for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment on the 19th floor. The unit was as advertised, though compared with the other two one-bedroom units our party occupied, it was certainly the oldest and most dated property. The code system to enter the unit was neat and secure. A guest representative came to our condo with a welcome packet, which was nice. The other units had dishwashers; this one does not. The two-sided views of the beach and mountains along with two separate decks were great. The Internet was fast and worked well. The appliances did the trick but were old (watch out for the toaster with rubbed off dials). There was plenty of cookware and flatware in the kitchen. The beds were uncomfortable, but we made it work. There were two pull-out couches for the kids that worked.
The biggest issues we encountered during our experience were (1) all the property washers/dryers (all 25 floors) stopped working for two or three days because of a system glitch (due to lots of rain), and (2) there were not enough linens or towels available. Once the washers/dryers stopped working, we were given some extra towels upon request. When the washers/dryers did work, the machines accepted different types of debit/credit card access (swipe, chip, and contactless tap), which was a nice touch.
We found cheap parking behind the hotel on the beach side -- parking on property is extremely expensive.
At the end of the day, did the room serve its purpose? Yes. Was the condo dated? Without question. Would we stay in this particular dated unit again and pay as much as we did for 8 nights? Most likely not until the unit is fully updated.
