    If you want to explore, the Appalachian Trail is a couple miles away, historic Harpers Ferry is just a 20 min drive away, and Virginia wine country is just next door. WiFi is fast at 100 Mbps, so if you should have no trouble streaming or video conferencing, in case you need to work remotely.

    We are committed to Rent Responsibly standards. This means we follow best-in-class guidelines to ensure you have a peaceful, safe and memorable stay with us. We care a lot about maintaining good relationships with our community, so we appreciate you following these "house rules" during your stay.

    LICENSE AGREEMENT: The guest booking the property must digitally sign a license agreement immediately following the reservation. The most important terms of the agreement are included below, and the guest may cancel a booking penalty free within 24 hours. If the license agreement is not completed with 24 hours then the reservation will be cancelled. The agreement will be sent via text message, so please be sure your phone number is correct before booking.

    AGE 25 OR OLDER TO BOOK: The guest booking the property must be 25 years of age or older. We reserve the right to request a photo or scan of a government-issued photo ID. The guest who books must stay at the property--you may not book for others if you do not intend to stay at the property.

    QUIET HOURS START AT 10 PM: Our property's quiet hours of 10 pm to 6 am are required by county ordinance and enforced by local police. If the police respond to a noise complaint, every individual on the property may face a misdemeanor criminal charge and be subject to a fine by the county of $300. Failure to abide by the county noise ordinance will result in the immediate termination of the stay without refund.

    Past noise complaints have always come from groups of 20-somethings. If you are booking for a group of people in their twenties and you think your group may want to play loud music at any time then do not book this property or cancel your reservation if you have already booked. Find another place for your trip so you do not have your trip terminated early and without refund.

    NOISE MONITORING AND SECURITY CAMERA: We use devices that measure volume levels throughout the property (like a smoke detector but for noise) and allow us to respond to noise nuisances before the police are called. The devices are triggered primarily by sustained periods of loud music, not things like loud talking or laughter (which is encouraged!). The devices do not record audio and are 100% privacy compliant. We also have a security camera that records the front door and driveway. This allows us to facilitate remote check in and monitor the property between guests.

    ACCIDENT FORGIVENESS: Every stay is backed by our accident forgiveness program. Guests will not be held responsible for damage caused during their stay (up to a maximum of $1,500) if 1) the damage is accidental, and 2) the damage is reported as soon as possible, and by no later than the check out time.

    POSSIBLE BACKGROUND CHECK: We reserve the right to use a third-party to verify the guest's identity and check criminal databases to finalize the reservation. Complete terms regarding the guest verification are provided in the lodging agreement, and can be provided sooner upon request.

    NO MUSIC OUTDOORS: This is a quiet, family-friendly lake community, not a place to party. Residents and guests alike come here to relax amid the peace and quiet of the lake. Because of this, and because sound carries so easily across the lake, we do not allow guests to play any music outdoors. Other reasonable noise, from children playing outside, for example, is no problem.

    NO PETS: No exceptions, sorry. Please don't ask whether we can allow your perfectly house-trained, hypoallergenic labradoodle to join because we can't :-)

    SNOW-INS: During the winter, there is a good chance that a significant snow storm could restrict access in and out of the cabin. The roads are plowed, but not always promptly. 4 wheel drive is highly recommended in the event of a snow storm, and you need to use good judgement as to whether to cancel a trip before it begins or leave the cabin early.

    FIREPLACE: You are encouraged to use the fireplace as long as you do so carefully! Always keep the grate securely shut unless you are actively putting logs inside. We do not guarantee there will be firewood or fire starter at the cabin, so plan to bring your own. The River Country Store 1.5 mi away sells bundles of wood.

    NO HEATING IN PORCH: The three-season porch off the back of the cabin does not have any heating and will get a bit chilly in the wintertime. Please note this is where the dining table is located. The only other dining space indoors is around the kitchen island.

    NEW RANGE/OVEN: You may see reviewers mention the antique oven/stovetop being difficult to use. Well, it was! We have since replaced that with a brand new induction stovetop and oven which works wonderfully.

    CHICKENS NEXT DOOR: The neighbor next door keeps chickens in his yard, but the chickens should not be a nuisance during your stay.

    NO SMOKING: Smoking and vaping are never allowed inside the house. You may smoke or vape outside as long as you clean up after yourself. You may not litter cigarette butts on the deck, in the yard, or anywhere else--butts must go in the trash after they have cooled off. If smoking inside the screened porch, please turn on the fan so that the smoke does not linger and leave a smell.

    NUMBER OF GUESTS: It is important to have the correct number of guests on the reservation, so please update accordingly if the number changes after you first book. There are only enough plates, glasses, etc. for a maximum of 6 people, and the septic plumbing cannot handle more than 6 people at once. Only registered guests are allowed to use the home, day or night.

    SHEETS: At the end of your stay, please strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds.

    PARKING: There is room for up to 4 cars in the driveway, but if parking more than 2 cars, you might have to box in other cars by parking behind them.

    BRING OR RENT YOUR OWN BOATS: We do not offer kayaks or other boats to guests. The Mountain Lake Club on the lake does rent boats from Memorial Day to Labor Day, including at least one pontoon boat. No gas-powered boats are allowed on the lake--only small electric motors are allowed.

    BUGS AND MICE: We have regular pest control to minimize the presence of bugs and mice. However, this is a cabin in the woods, and that means no matter what you do there will still be bugs, especially in the summertime. Even if you are careful, some of those bugs will find their way into the house. You must carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food so you do not attract bugs or mice. It is rare that mice are spotted inside the cabin, but it has happened before and could happen again. If the sight of a mouse would be too much to bear then you should not book this or any other cabin in the woods.

    WAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF LAKE: By using the lake you agree to follow all house rules associated with it and you release the owner of the property from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while using the hot tub and/or the lake, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence.

    SEPTIC SYSTEM: This house has a septic system. Grease and oil must never be allowed down any of the sink drains. Feminine hygiene products must be thrown away in a trash can and not flushed down a toilet. Never flush solid trash down the toilet or into a sink drain.

    NO FIREWORKS: Fireworks are not allowed.

    NO FIREARMS: Guests may not bring firearms or ammunition inside the house.

    NO ILLEGAL DRUGS: Guests may not possess or consume any illegal drugs on the property, including cannabis.

My family loved our stay at this cabin on Lake Shannondale! It was so amazingly peaceful and lovely, I would choose to rent with Mountain Mama again in a heartbeat. We were provided a guidebook that held all essential information, provided linens (even hot tub towels), kitchen essentials, shower toiletries and a super clean and well stocked place. I loved that some of the supplies were Costco brand such as toilet paper, paper towels and trash bags because that's what we use at home. The cabin has a lovely firepit area for 4-6, a hot tub, four seasons room and a little deck. The beds were soft, the linens fluffy and clean, the kitchen was clean and I actually didn’t mind walking around the place barefoot, which is typically rare in a rental. My kids (11 and 8) were delighted to find the random games. The games, fishing and hot tub kept them from being bored. The ONLY gripe I had was the rooster next door. We are used to living next to chickens, but there's something different about waking up before 7am to a rooster when away from home. Knowing that I may choose to bring ear plugs or a white noise machine to block out the sound in the early AM. Location - you're about 20 mins from town but there's a hidden gem around the lake at the mountain lake club. We got to see the locals do karaoke and my daughter loved it. Its a cute little restaurant and bar about 2 mins driving from the cabin. FYI no pizza place delivers here, so bring enough food to cook at the cabin. ved this place!

This trip was for my wife and my 2nd anniversary, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The main room was very spacious, yet extremely cozy due to the wood burning fireplace. The home was well appointed with everything you would need for your stay. The views of the lake and the wildlife were just icing on the cake.

Went for a couple days with my friends for fishing and just general relaxing. The location has hit or miss cell signal so getting in contact with people is tough once your up at the location and they used multiple numbers to contact you so it was tough to get the actual door code but once we were in it was all golden. Place was clean and had plenty of linens and even the basic amenities you'd expect. Only issues we had was the television didn't work at all for our whole stay and the basement area smelled musty. I don't hold it against them as it is a mountain cabin but I think they just need to get the dehumidifier squared away and maybe use something different for the television. The driveway has plenty of parking for vehicle's and we managed to park three full size trucks and two cars with room to spare. The views are beautiful on location and the lake is very peaceful. We sat outside by the lake and at night we moved to the fully enclosed area adjacent to the kitchen. Everyone enjoyed their stay and had a great time.

What a delightful cabin! It was both clean and cozy, Private but with good access, parking, and WIFI. l was pleasantly surprised to find everything necessary for an excellent cup of coffee!These are good folks who took great care of us as guests, would absolutely reserve with Mountain Moma again!

It was a very nice cabin and location. We were very disappointed that there was not a washer and dryer in the house especially since we were at a cabin on the lake swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking. It was not listed as an amenity but neither was a stove. Had we realized there was not a washer and dryer we probably would not have booked this cabin. Also, we were only given one bath towel each. Once again, we could have benefited having a washer and dryer to use. We did really like the lake access and the sitting area by the lake.
