"I was really looking forward to my stay at The Candlesticks. However as soon as I entered, I began to have my doubts. The bar area, where the owner received us, looked particularly shabby and it smelt musty. It was 3pm (an hour after checking-in should have started) and the room wasn't ready. It wasn't such a big deal, but it was another warning sign. I was in a single room, which made a certain saying about a cat spring to mind. "Our room was perfect for us, a good size and lovely and quiet. Corridors were quiet and the floor did not creak as you walked along so we slept very well. Bed was very good, pillows less so. Hotel is in an excellent location for walking down the canal, ponds and woods, lots of green space just a walk away. The food at the restaurant was not as good as we were hoping but there are 2 very good pubs very close which served very good food. All in all though, for us, a very enjoyable stay"

"Very expensive restaurant with limited choice. No welcome from staff we hen passing reception. Expensive breakfast with limited choice both our choices were not available. Buffet but no attempt to clear table Staff standing around and you even have to serve yourself Not a friendly place."
