"We had a wonderful stay at Appleby Castle. We were made so welcome by hosts Sally and Peter. The room was adequate for a castle. Dinner was superb, a of mix of prawn and salmon starter followed by main course of garlic chicken. The setting was the in the beautiful dining room. We were the only ones dining, and had the chef cooking solely for ourselves !! Peter played the piano as we dined. Sally could not have been nicer as we chatted. "We stayed at the Kings Head last weekend and had a lovely time. The pub itself is gorgeous, decorated beautifully, it is cosy and inviting and located in a lovely spot by the stream.Although the actual car park itself was small this was no problem as we parked literally a couple of minutes away on the lane, perfect as it allowed the opportunity to see a tiny red squirrel busy in a nearby tree. "The location is spectacular as was the weather. Kate the manager is exceptional, she had agency staff who were a credit to her but new one had been there 2 hours, a chef walked out and she was cooking as well as running and managing everything including a power cut. The hotel is tired we had a suite and the plugs didn’t work in the bath and shower, the bath was also chipped. If they spent the money and invested in the proper and staff it would be awesome, the garden needed mowing and was...

"Positives: Centrally located, parking and breakfast included, good range of options on both the breakfast and evening menu Negatives: I stayed during a period of warm weather and found the room incredibly hot. Unfortunately there was no air conditioning in the room so had to make do with a fan. It was slightly disappointing that at breakfast it was squash rather than juice being served, and there was no option to have a Latte or Capuccino-just regular filter coffee."
