"We had a wonderful stay at Appleby Castle. We were made so welcome by hosts Sally and Peter. The room was adequate for a castle. Dinner was superb, a of mix of prawn and salmon starter followed by main course of garlic chicken. The setting was the in the beautiful dining room. "The Inn is perfectly located for enjoying Kirkby Stephen. The staff - especially Jacqui - is super helpful and kind. Really enjoyed our brief time there. Our friends who stayed down the street were wishing they had booked here. Be prepared to carry luggage upstairs and know the bed isn’t super big by American standards. "

"There is a reason this is a three star hotel. Despite some pleasant room decor and very helpful staff there are many things that let it down. Exterior is shoddy, rooms look over a busy road or a busy courtyard- both are noisy when windows are open in warm weather. Menu disappointing and limited - there was literally nothing that enticed me. There was also a lack of choice for vegan or even veggie options.
