We had an absolutely perfect stay over Labor Day weekend. Plenty of space for ourselves and our five children (ages 4-15), and everyone had a great time. Exactly the laid back, quiet goodbye to summer we were looking for!! The kids caught tons of fish from the dock, and we all enjoyed kayaking on the clear-as-glass water. The house itself was charming and we enjoyed finding new antique treasures in every corner through the weekend. Exactly as a Michigan cottage should be!

As Advertised

Close to Gull Lake View golf courses. Easy drive into K-Zoo and Cereal City. Nice location. Quiet lake. Note that there is no A/C which is detailed in the listing. Upstairs bedrooms were very warm during our stay where temps exceeded 90 deg F daily. 3rd floor loft would have been unbearable if we had.needed these beds. Screens on the 1st floor windows facing the lake would be nice. Antiques and family mementos gave property a much older feel than age of the cottage.

Quiet stay

Overall good stay. Quiet, wooded home on a dead-end road with a back patio that extends into the lake with a wooden dock. Friendly neighbors. Good facilities with a shower only and just what you need in the kitchen. Some notes: bring bottled water as the tap water has rust / sulfur smells. There's no AC in the house but plenty of fans. We stayed in early August and regretted not having AC. House is well shaded though so likely fine most of the year otherwise. Water is continually running from a basement sump pump into a PVC pipe and then into the water by the dock. Would have preferred not to hear that continually. Owners might consider an elongated toilet bowel if you ever go to replace your toilet. Guy preferred.

This cabin is actually much more charming in person! We chose this rental entirely based on our location requirements, but I was pretty nervous about no AC, no wifi, and only one bathroom. Family Visit

My son and I loved the location, the quiet peaceful atmosphere and fishing was great! It cooled down while our stay so we didn’t get to get out on the water but fishing from the dock was great! Would stay there again.

Quiet, serene get-away

I have rented a different lakehouse every Labor Day weekend for many years and this is one of our faves. The decor will definitely appeal to antique lovers. The large deck is lovely. The lake is very quiet (no wake) and peaceful. We enjoyed taking the paddle boat out on the water. Not great swimming off the dock (overgrown weeds and such), but we took the boat out to the middle of the lake to swim. We were able to fish right off the dock. The water in the cottage has a bit of a smell and metallic taste, so I reccomend bringing bottled water for drinking. No air conditioning, but the cottage is very shaded and stayed cool enough. All in all, a great little escape for me and my family!

The property was great! The only downfall was no AC.

We loved the property and location! Very quiet. The location was perfect for the groomsmen for my daughters wedding and for my daughter and new son in law on their wedding night! The only thing was there was no AC and the guys that stayed upstairs was hot an did not sleep well because of it! But the weather was really hot! Suggest bringing fans for the upper bedrooms.

Secluded relaxation

Great place to get away from the city and fish, hang out with family and friends on the multi-level porch or spacious main floor, and watch eagles and sunsets! Inside is a nostalgic trip of regional American history and a nod to the agriculture so prevalent in the area.

Our stay was great, however there was no mention of the horrible smell of the water. We purchased water for drinking and showered at my son's house which was only 15 minutes away. We managed just fine. We generated more trash than the can provided. Overall we loved it. Reminded me of better times from my youth. We felt safe and neighbors were nice.

Relaxing stay on a quiet lake.

The house is very homey with tons of antiques to look at. We felt very comfortable and relaxed here. The deck is wonderful allowing for many places to sit and enjoy the lakes and sunsets. There is a big snapping turtle that visits near the dock daily. We enjoyed a The peaceful lake and had a good time fishing.

Great place to disconnect.

I was hesitant to rent this property because it does not have AC. However, the house is covered by a lot of shade and the house stays remarkably cool. Even on our hottest 85 degree day there was a nice breeze off the lake amd we were comfortable. We did not swim in front of the home because our boys (9 & 11) were scared of a very large snapper that was not bashful and not afraid of people! We used the nearby public beach which was well maintained and less that 5min away. Close enough you could take the paddle boat or canoe. Overall a great place to stay with family.

Second Round

This is the second time we’ve stayed here and loved it. My only concern (which I intend to message about) is that the oven/stove was leaving a dark soot on every single cooking utensil. The mess got everywhere. We tried to clean as best we could but it truly went all over the kitchen. Not sure if just the burners need to be recalibrated or something. But the cabin is just as lovely and beautiful as last time.

Lovely lakeside getaway

The Cottage was a unique and inviting destination for a long family weekend. Fishing was bountiful, and we appreciated the decor and devotionals. The children camped out upstairs one the night became too deep to enjoy the peaceful surrounds from the multi level deck. Homey and inviting, we recommend!

Great Place to Stay

The owners have not missed anything here. The cottage is cute and comfortable and clean. The deck are is very welcoming and invites you to sit and relax for awhile. Quiet lake and neighborhood, great for getting away from the hustle and bustle. Paddle boat was the best! We will certainly be going back again!

Nice Lake House

The location is great. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed it. Here is the but - the sump pump runs constantly and it can be heard throughout the house. It is a bit over decorated, kind of like living in an antique store. And the linens are cheap and slide off the bed all the time which quickly gets annoying. Overall it is great place to stay, it is right on the lake, great for kayaking and fishing, the place is clean and sunsets are wonderful.

Nice secluded getaway

We enjoyed our stay in this rustic eclectic cabin. Plenty of space to spread out and very nice lake view and access. Kinda had to figure things out on our own with minimal guidance but we managed.
