Could be much better with better maintenance and cleaning Review: The apartment has potential, but our experience was not great. There was a noticeable lack of cleanliness and a lot of dust. Some towels and bed sheets were stained, which was disappointing. At first, there were no pots, pans, or cutlery, although the host kindly provided them later. The surroundings of the property were in poor condition, and access to the apartment (on the third floor) was quite difficult. Parking was very limited — we had to park in an area that wasn’t allowed. Also, the secondary mattresses were not very comfortable.

Nice location, and the parking pass is a great benefit. But I would not recommend during summer. It is a 3rd floor apartment, and the only A/C is a window unit in the bedroom. It does not cool the living space at all. Also, we had problems with the TV, so I messaged the host, and it took almost 24 hours to get a response. By the time they responded, we no longer had use for the tv.

Second Floor Nightmare

The actual room was alright, but the second floor that you must pass by, had a smell and there were 100s of dead flies on the second floor, unfortunate because the neighborhood was actually nice and the room wasn’t bad.

Perfect For What We Needed

The place was exactly the kind that we needed and not too pricey. It was also really nice getting to play all the games that are available in the room. Like Pac-Man, Darts, and Connect 4. I would really recommend staying here it was great.

Easy

Note that there are lots of stairs. If you have difficulty with them, this may not be your place. The location is convenient. We did not have a car but there appeared to be street parking. (Unsure if a permit is required) The bed was comfortable and the unit served our purposes. The tv has the apps that will keep you entertained and the kitchen has the basics. I would recommend a coffee maker or press pot and restricting the other tenants from running the laundry after 10pm.

Gets the job done

We booked this place because we (two people) were working from home while visiting. The WiFi was enough for both of us to get all our work done, which was great. The space itself is fine. No razzle dazzle, but the Ms Pac Man machine ended up being a nice addition to our late nights. We really enjoyed the neighborhood, close proximity to restaurants and bars (definitely check out Central Park!)

Disappointing space and communication

Staying at this flat was disappointing and the lack of communication from the host was very frustrating. No parking permits provided. Host said they were in the unit -they weren’t. Host said they’d get them to us ASAP and pay any tickets. We were there 7 days and he never brought them or responded when asked further about it. Luckily we did not get ticketed but we had a rental and it was stressful. One of the main reasons we picked this place was so that we could do laundry mid-trip, but there was a sign on the washer that said “NOT FOR GUEST USE.” We messaged the host and he said we could use it just don’t overfill it. When we went to use it, another tenant was using it, despite having separate washing machines on each floor. We stayed up late to do laundry, and the other tenant returned and complain loudly that it was not for guest use. The host needs to remove laundry as a listed amenity or remove the sign on the machine. We tried to talk to the host about this and received no response. Couch was squeaky because half the legs were broken and being held up by a styrofoam block. A large canvas fell suddenly from the wall while we were lying in bed and no where near it. All of the shampoo was anti-dandruff? No smoke alarm. One of the office chairs was broken and unusable. Water temperature was plumbed backwards and gets scalding hot. There were AC window units but no way to control the heater. Location, wifi tv were great, and the beds were comfy and clean.

Great location and everything we needed

Everything about the place was nice and clean, and the location was perfect. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the automated lock on the door ran out of batteries when we were there so the indoor lock to our unit wouldn't lock. We messaged the property manager about it and he said they would come change out the batteries and it never happened. Thankfully the building felt secure from the outside, but it still wasn't ideal.

Nice stay in Avondale

Clean property, great space, my son loved the Ms. Pacman game. Host was great and responsive. The area felt very safe, easy to walk to some yummy restaurants and using Uber. The only challenge was the temperature was a bit too warm for us. There is a small window unit in the bedroom, but it wasn't able to cool the rest of the unit well. We didn't stay inside much as there is too much to see and do in Chicago.

Good overall!

The place was adorable, clean and had great amenities. We had some trouble with the exterior door and the air conditioning (which we fixed ourselves) but it’s a good area and the loft was adorable and a good size.

Great stay for a great price

Very comfortable space with everything you need! In a nice neighborhood near Logan square and close to the train. Around the corner from Magnifico Coffee too, which has stellar coffee and pastries. Would definitely stay again :)

Excellent location, clean, affordable, great communication from the owner!

This was my first stay at a VRBO, and my first trip to Chicago. The apartment is exactly as pictured and described, and the owner is very helpful and answered my questions in a friendly and timely manner! The location is perfect - close enough to take a short walk to a coffee shop, local bar, or parks, or a short bus ride/drive to the busier shopping areas, but out of the fray of the city. I was extremely pleased with the apartment for the price. My son moved to Chicago, and this weekend I drove up to help him get settled in. As this apartment is less than a mile from where he lives, and for the location, price, and professionalism of the owner, I will be staying here again when I make future trips to visit my son! Highly recommend!!
