  • Guests will love this newly renovated 1br/1ba unit located on the ground level of the Charles Magwood House, an historic home circa 1823-24. The home has all modern, high-end finishes while maintaining a refined `Southern Charm`. Located on a beautiful residential street in the heart of Downtown Charleston within walking distance to all of the main points of interest, you will truly experience life as a local Charlestonian!

    Layout:

    - Keypad entry
    - Small entry foyer
    - Bedroom with king bed and Smart TV
    - Full en-suite bathroom with marble countertops and shower/tub combo
    - Living area with Smart TV and piano for any aspiring musicians
    - Kitchen fully equipped with stove, dishwasher, appliances, keurig, all kitchen essentials, and seating for two on the kitchen island
    - Laundry room with washer/dryer
    - Covered outdoor patio with sectional sofa

    Guests have access to the entire apartment and the outdoor patio space.

    There is no parking onsite.

    Property is managed locally by Southern Charmed Hospitality Group so someone is always available should any issues arise.

    Established in the 1700s, Harleston Village is dotted with Georgian and Italianate buildings on tree-lined streets. Bordered by the Charleston Harbor, historic Broad Street and both the College of Charleston and the Medical University of SC, Harleston Village is conveniently located in the heart of the city in a highly pedestrian friendly area that has parks, corner cafes, boutiques, and bars, providing a prime downtown address with one of the highest rates of walkability and bikability in the city.

    The home has one of the best locations downtown so walking and biking are the easiest ways to get around. Uber and Lyft are also readily available downtown should you need a taxi.

    HOME

    Guests should note that this is an historic home (Charles Magwood House) built in 1823-24 and while renovated, has traits of a home over 200 years old including original hardwood floors, `old house smells`, etc. If you feel you may have issues with residing in an older home and are highly sensitive to mild allergens or smells associated with a property such as this it would be best to book elsewhere.

    The home is a large, historic multi-unit complex with a grand main house and smaller carriage houses in the rear. The owner lives upstairs in the main home. The renovation of the exterior of the property is still a work in progress.

    MINI-SPLIT SYSTEM

    The unit has mini-splits in every room and the full system is connected to the main residence upstairs, with the homeowner having control over the heat and cool settings and guests having control over the fan speeds and whether the units are turned off or on. In transitional temperature months like spring and fall, there may be a few days where the system has not been switched over by the homeowner from heat to cool, or vice versa. There are ceiling fans and a space heater to provide additional comfort

    PRESENCE OF ANIMALS

    The homeowner has three very friendly dogs that may be present in the yard at any given time.

    PARKING

    There is no parking onsite. Guests with vehicles will need to arrange for parking on their own by researching public parking in the area. The nearest public parking garage is a 1/2 mile from the home.

    CANCELLATIONS

    Guests will receive a 95% refund up to 30 days before check-in. After that, no reservations are given.

    DAMAGE DEPOSIT

    A $500 damage deposit will be pulled from the card used for booking prior to the departure date. This deposit will be fully refundable to the card within 5-10 business days after departure if there are no claims made for damages.

    HOUSE MANUAL

    The house manual with all of the details needed for your stay will be sent out at 9am THE MORNING OF YOUR ARRIVAL directly in the message thread of the account used for booking.

    Please do not ask for it earlier, or ask for it to be sent elsewhere.

    INCLEMENT WEATHER

    Your safety and comfort are our priority. In the unlikely event of a MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER FOR CHARLESTON COUNTY during your stay, rest assured that both the Owner/Host and the Property Management Company WILL REFUND 100% OF YOUR PAYMENTS for the dates of evacuation. Once refunded, neither party will have further liability regarding your Reservation.

    Please note that ONLY MANDATORY EVACUATIONS WILL QUALIFY FOR REFUNDS. No other travel disruptions due to weather, whether in South Carolina or other states, are eligible. For protection, consider travel insurance, especially in high-risk months like hurricane season. Airbnb`s insurance or other options are recommended.

    INSECTS

    As Charleston is situated in a warm, coastal climate it is possible to see insects inside or outside of the home at times. These include palmetto bugs, sand gnats, mosquitoes, ants, etc. Those who live in the Lowcountry just accept this as part of living here but it may be unsettling for those from other areas. The home is treated regularly for pest control but this will not entirely eliminate insects from getting inside at times. Please do your best to not keep doors and windows open and not leave food or drinks out in the home as this will attract insects. FINDING AN INSECT IS NOT CAUSE FOR A REFUND

Great location in a historic home. What can you say? It was clean, nostalgic, roomy. Perfect for our visit.

This property is unsafe, a serious health risk containing black and orange mold, and a complete misrepresentation of the listing.The entire house reeked of mildew and mold the moment we arrived. Exhausted from traveling, we tried to air it out and hoped it was temporary. By the next morning, the smell was overwhelming, and we both woke up feeling sick. In the bathroom, the walls were literally bubbling, with black and orange mold visible throughout the house (see photos). The space felt so dirty we didn’t even want to touch the furniture.When we reached out, the host—previously very responsive—suddenly became dismissive and refused to release us from the booking. Vrbo was equally unhelpful, trapping us in a situation that was clearly unsafe. A “property manager” eventually showed up and told us, unbelievably, that “this is just how houses smell” and denied the mold despite visible spores.On top of that, there was loud construction next door and even a police presence outside the property one evening. At no point did we feel comfortable or safe.This listing is absolutely misleading and should not be available on Vrbo. We lost valuable vacation time scrambling to find alternate accommodations, and we're not able to cancel or try and get a refund from the host, and it was clear the host was manipulating loopholes to avoid accountability. Travelers, beware: the listing photos do not reflect the true condition of this house.

Pictures really oversell the property. It looks christine in the pictures, but once I got there, it looked like it was old hand me down furniture. For the price they were charging, it seemed like they would have done better with the sofa and the chairs. They were doing construction next door to the property and all day long they were hammering. The property was hard to find. Parking was terrible. We were so unsatisfied with the property that we left early. I would not recommend anyone to stay there.
