I made a booking and received confirmation stating standard ID requirements applied at check-in. However, this is not the case. As there is no reception desk to check into, I was asked to upload a photo of my driver’s licence in addition to a selfie holding my bankcard displaying my full name and expiry dates. I was further asked to provide a screenshot of my bank account that payment had been made from.
I queried how my personal ID, images and banking details were being stored and voiced concerns regarding the possibility of security implications/data breaches given all the information I was being asked to provide. No reassurance regarding security protocols was offered, but I was told she will “delete the images”. As I was not willing to provide a bank account screenshot on top of the selfies, bankcard photo and drivers licence, I suggested the host instead refund the booking amount so I could find accommodation elsewhere.
Close to an hour past check-in time, while waiting outside on the street with my children, I finally received the check in details. The carpark was impossible to locate due to blackout paint having faded where the park number was and the unit was listed on the wrong level on the keyring. The apartment itself was spacious but cheaply furnished with an old child’s rug in the living area and different lounges to what appear in the advertising images.
