We can start on an up-note. The decor was beautiful, tastefully and carefully decorated. The unit was very clean, and barring the absence of a couch, comfortable, however the unit was freezing. The communication with the owners and VRBO was excellent. The owner literally got back to us in minutes. The kitchenette oh the kitchenette! What is a kitchenette? A little kitchen, right? Sadly, the owners seem not to know this. There was no sink, no stove, no refrigerator, no ice maker, no dishes or utensils of any kind. While we were there only for a weekend and there was no imperative on cooking, it would have been nice to have the option, as well as refrigeration should we bring leftovers home. Don't get me started on the no ice. The owners deliver drinks to the rooms, which is I guess why they don't offer ice, but I'm not going to order a iced water at 3 in the morning from them. None of this lack of amenities was noted in the description.
Walk a few blocks in any direction and the neighborhood was not great. It was described as being close to downtown, which it is not. It is a 10-15 walk to the train station (note my first sentence), and over 40 minutes to central Boston. We would not be comfortable walking home from the train station late at night.
Lastly, and this is for VRBO; the room rate was reasonable, but the fees and taxes ended up being more than the room rate! After all this we should have just stayed at a nice hotel in downtown Boston.
We do want to thank them for their recommendation to Coquette - an excellent French restaurant (not as close as they said it would be).
