  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. Belle Hiltone is a lovely comfortable place to stay. Beautiful views of the bush and wilderness stretching into the distance. The passing kangaroos and birds make this a very special place to stay. We'll be back!

"When can we move in?"This is a question we all asked ourselves every day of our trip away. This quiet gem of a place has absolutely stunning views. While there are neighbours nearby you cannot see or hear them from the main property. Watching wallabies explore the gorgeous native garden throughout our stay was an extra special treat.The house is modern, clean, cozy and very well maintained. We found ourselves quite comfortable and it was not too far to drive into town for groceries.Host was also super responsive to any questions we had.10/10 would travel here again!

We had a great stay here. I’m pretty fussy with accommodation, particularly cleanliness and minimal clutter, and this house exceded my expectations. Booking and communication with Barry was easy. We arrived there in the dark and were relieved to find the outside lighting switched on for us. Immediate impression once inside was that it’s spacious, fresh and clean. In the morning we found the spectacular views outside, all visible from inside the house. We had a very comfortable sleep there. Very tranquil and peaceful, no noise at all the whole time we were there apart from wildlife. There is a nearby railway which we did hear sometimes at night though it was not bad at all and it never woke us up. The house was comfortably warm and we didn’t need to use the wood fire at all even though it was cooler outside in the evenings. Although it’s a small house, it feels very spacious and I really appreciated that it wasn’t cluttered with unnecessary decor yet it felt cosy and inviting. Everything we needed was already there. We found the location good as a base to explore the blue mountains. I would stay here again.

A beautiful location! It was lovely to sit and enjoy the view, whatever the weather. We also enjoyed exploring and walking in the local area. Communication and check-in were simple and the property matched the description. In fact, living areas were larger than I expected and we wished we’d invited another couple to join us (we only used one bedroom).

Peace and quiet

Belle Hiltone was a lovely place to get away for a couple of nights. The instructions regarding check in were very clear, and we had everything we needed for the few days including plenty of firewood. The view from the living area is simply stunning, and watching the wallabies and kangaroos hopping past was delightful. We would definitely recommend Barry's place to anyone!

Our stay at Belle Hiltone was very relaxing and just what we were looking for. The views were spectacular and we were visited by a lot of the local wildlife, which my 10 year old loved. The cottage has all you could need and the fireplace was well used. There are many cafes not too far away and it is well worth the drive to Mt. Wilson to look at some of the gardens. Check-in was easy and Barry was easily contactable if we had any questions.

Fabulous! Spotlessly clean, on mains power so no drama with supply or getting warm, fresh water, great woodburner, expansive view, private, quiet, all the mod cons in the kitchen, comfy beds. Great Wifi connection, smart TV. TV in bedroom too! Heaters throughout. Hot water, heat lights in the bathroom. Barry's coms were speedy and efficient. Easy check in and out. Shops short easy drive away. Sealed roads or excellent gravelled driveway. Loved our stay. Thank you mate ;-

Loved this property

Perfect location, close to many of the things on our to do list.Beautifully appointed with everything we needed, wood fire made it very cosy just what we needed after the days adventures in chilly June plenty of wood provided.. The peace & quiet was exactly what we were looking for & this property delivered. Beautiful sunrises complete with a visit from the local wildlife a family of Kangaroos. Our host Barry was great with communication & directions for our stay. Everything went smoothly definatley hope to stay again in the future.
