Place was great easily slept 17 of us for the 3 nights we stayed. Perfect location. Just wish the hot tub was on and pool was a little cleaner.

Shabby but adequate

The main living floor, kitchen the and upstairs bedrooms are very charming. Unfortunately the basement felt partially finished and was not warm and inviting at all. The basement bathroom flooded due to a sewer backup. We ended up with sewer water in the area close to where people were sleeping. To the host’s credit, they called a plumber and cleaned it up immediately but guests were uncomfortable using the plumbing for the rest of our stay.

Incredible Potential to be a True Diamond for Large Groups in Austin

This February 2025, a group of nearly a dozen friends and I rented Thurgood for a weekend in Austin to attend charity events. We loved the house’s location—just a 10-minute drive to Rainey Street, 6th Street, and other downtown spots we frequented. The spacious layout, pool, and hot tub initially drew us in, and we appreciated the early check-in.However, cleanliness was a concern. The house needed a deep clean—dust-covered vents, dirty mirrors, and general upkeep issues were noticeable. We also encountered significant problems with the bathrooms and hot water. The entire house lacked water pressure in all showers & sinks.The master shower was lukewarm, while the hall bath’s jetted tub didn’t work and struggled to hold water. The main floor bathroom had a persistent mildew/sewage smell, and water temperatures fluctuated unpredictably. The basement shower had no hot water at all. Despite reaching out to management, issues remained unresolved.The hot tub was inconsistent, heating only when it decided to work, and the pool—while we didn’t opt to heat it—was also dirty. Additional concerns included a poorly locking front door, a broken piano, and general wear and tear throughout the house.This property has incredible potential, but it desperately needs better maintenance to be the standout rental it should be. While we enjoyed the space for gathering and meals, those expecting top-tier amenities may be disappointed.

Don’t stay here.. and if you have a reservation, cancel it.

This place was so disappointing. We were told that we couldn’t do early check in, which was fine - we were alerted that the cleaners were “finishing up” at our check in time… it wasn’t until an hour and a half later that they finally left. All of the doors were open when we got there, and the house was 85 degrees inside. We couldn’t even sit out back by the pool because it wasn’t temperature controlled and the mosquitos were so terrible. The backyard was completely overgrown, and it was very clear that no effort was made to try to maintain or cut the grass. On the second day of our stay, we noticed that there was a fly infestation on the basement. Not a couple that came in from the doors being open - more like 20-30 flying around and landing on everything. For reference, I’m renovating a house and we had the doors open all day and only had 4 flies inside. There is clearly a sanitary issue in the basement; could be a consequence of the leak in the bathroom on the main floor. The problem was so bad, the 8 people we had sleeping in the basement couldn’t stay there and we had to double up on beds, and have people sleep on the couches and the FLOOR. We alerted them to the problem and said that an exterminator couldn’t get out until the day we were leaving. Of course, the “exterminator” they called didn’t find anything… the location and charm of the house are great. It’s a real shame it wasn’t properly maintained. I would not stay here again.

No water service..horrible management

We booked a house for 11 with the Renters Club in Austin Tx. When we arrived it was about 28 degrees outside and two of three exterior doors were wide open and the house was extremely cold. It took a while to, maybe two hours to realize the house had no water as the pipes were frozen. We called the manager and they said they would find us a new house tomorrow. In the morning, as the house warmed up, the kitchen sink started to have water, but that resulted in leak downstairs, where there are two bedrooms. We had to move to Endfield Road to the "Governor's house. It was supposed to be an upgrade. It had only one operational shower, one toilet needed to be assisted with a bucket of water to flush and one other shower a dribble out of it. One shower had no diverter to take it from the tub setting to the shower setting. Renters Club said..."at least you have one shower"...for 11 people...and it was next to the kitchen. There were lots of problems with the two houses. The first one I confirmed with Renters Club after reading the hot Tub was working as it had been written up in December as broken...they said it had been fixed. It may have been fixed, but the tablet that controled it was dead and after recharging it required a password that was not provided. It was obvious that no one took maintenance seriously. We were offered less than a 10% refund that has not been given yet. Avoid Renters Club

Overall good rental experience

The unit was pretty much as listed with plenty of sleeping and sitting areas. Things that could use some work are the hot tub (not working), the basement kitchen (leaking pipes), and the showers (basement not great pressure, jacuzzi tub shower is hard to get into and leaks on to the bathroom floor).

Large place but amenities were mostly broken

My group of friends and I get together once a year to reconnect and hang out. The listing really drew our attention because of the ping pong table and hot tub. A hot tub given the time of year was a must-have for our trip. I saw that there were past reviews that mentioned the hot tub not working and so I reached out to the owner/management team to ensure it was working. They assured me the hot tub would be in working condition and so we committed to staying here. Unfortunately it was not. I reached out to the property owner during our stay when it wasn’t heating up and they got it to start. However, it continually shut off or didn’t get hot enough to be a hot tub. The max temperature it ever got was 76 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition the ping pong table and paddles were not in great shape. This wasn’t essential but was a nice to have on our list of places to secure. The essentials such as the beds, linens, living areas were well maintained but if you are looking for any extra amenities to be in good condition such as the hot tub then I would look elsewhere.

A lovely historic home

This was a great place for our combined family group. We had 2 families; one stayed in the 4 bedrooms upstairs, the other in the bedrooms in the basement level, and we met on the ground floor. It was really lovely. It's a quick drive to downtown, and it's a nice neighborhood to walk around, with a small grocery 3 blocks away, but it's really not walkable to downtown. The place has a lot of historic character, but is very well-maintained. I would certainly stay here again.

Great Stay

Place is perfectly located just far enough away from the action that you can sit in the back in peace and enjoy the pool, or a 5 min drive gets you to the bars on 6th/S. Congress. Great spot for family/friends trips

Excellent Stay

Great place for a large group to stay. Awesome pool area for everyone to hangout at and plenty of space inside as well. Great location as well. Pretty much less than a mile from everything we did with the exception of Lake Travis. Plenty of quick Uber availability at the house as well. Our host was very accommodating, we’d definitely stay there again!

Family Wedding

12 of our family stayed at the house for a wedding. Had plenty of beds and a huge dining room table. Lovely backyard with a pool and hot tub. Well stocked kitchen and loads of towels. Also had a second kitchen and washer/drier. Only down sides were hot tub did not work and it is a little musty downstairs.
