A spirited, well-loved Princes Wharf retreat.
ABOUT THIS SPACE
The apartment There is a particular magic to waking up on the eastern side of Princes Wharf. While the rest of the city is still finding its feet, the sun comes up directly over the Waitemata Harbour, and from this apartment`s outdoor space you get a front-row seat — coffee in hand, the water turning gold, ferries beginning their first crossings of the day, and the occasional yacht easing out of the marina before the wind picks up. It is one of those small, genuine Auckland pleasures that guests who stay here consistently mention, and it is genuinely difficult to replicate anywhere else in the city at this price point.
The apartment itself is comfortable and well-equipped, with modern amenities throughout and a kitchen ready for relaxed self-catering — oven, cooktop, dishwasher, and a fridge with enough space for a proper grocery run if you`re settling in for a few days. The living area opens directly onto the outdoor space that makes this apartment special, where sweeping harbour views, the gentle movement of the marina below, and the particular hush of early morning on the water combine into something genuinely restorative. It`s an atmosphere that`s hard to bottle into a listing description, but guests who`ve stayed here tend to agree once they`ve experienced it themselves.
The bedroom is a comfortable retreat with quality linen, positioned to stay calm and private even with the wharf`s activity going on below. The bathroom is clean, modern, and well-appointed throughout. Everything about this apartment has been put together for guests who want a genuine waterfront experience without needing a large footprint — a compact, well-considered one-bedroom that punches well above its size thanks entirely to that eastern aspect and outdoor space.
Princes Wharf`s distinctive heritage character — the terracotta-tiled promenade, the buildings designed to evoke the lines of a ship, the surrounding water on both sides — gives this apartment a setting that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere in Auckland. A short stroll delivers you to some of the city`s finest dining, and the rest of the Auckland waterfront unfolds from there, but the sunrise from your own outdoor space is reason enough on its own to choose this apartment.
PRINCES WHARF A century of Auckland history beneath your feet Princes Wharf has been part of Auckland`s story since 1929, when it was formally opened by Earl Jellicoe as a two-storey concrete wharf — at the time, an engineering first for the city. For decades it was Auckland`s window to the world: cargo ships from Britain and Asia, ocean liners bringing emigrants and returning servicemen, and during the Second World War, a working base for United States forces supporting the Pacific campaign. For generations of Aucklanders, this was the place you came to farewell someone leaving for the other side of the world, or to welcome them home — a history that gives this stretch of waterfront a depth that newer developments simply don`t have.
In 1998, a major redevelopment designed by Leuschke Group Architects transformed the wharf while preserving its long concrete bones — six interconnected heritage shed buildings, including Shed 19, now house apartments, restaurants, and retail above what was once a working cargo dock. It`s a rare thing in Auckland: a genuinely historic structure repurposed thoughtfully rather than demolished, and staying here means staying inside that history rather than simply reading about it on a plaque.
Today the wharf is one of the city`s most recognisable destinations, with water on both sides and the five-star Hilton Auckland anchoring the seaward end. Free public viewing decks at the tip of the wharf offer some of the most peaceful vantage points in the city, with sightlines stretching to Rangitoto Island and the Hauraki Gulf — well worth the short walk, particularly at sunset to bookend the sunrise you`ll already be enjoying from home.

Waterfront dining, history, and the wider city beyond Princes Wharf itself is a dining destination in its own right, and you genuinely don`t need to leave the wharf for a memorable night out. Somm offers serious wine tasting alongside its menu, Wahlburgers brings its famous family-recipe burgers right to the water`s edge, and a string of waterfront restaurants serve everything from long, unhurried harbour-view lunches to special-occasion fine dining with fireplaces and sweeping outdoor terraces. The wharf`s nautically-inspired architecture gives the whole precinct a polished, distinct character quite different from the busier Viaduct just around the corner.
Speaking of which, the Viaduct Harbour`s own celebrated restaurant and bar strip is a five-minute walk away, multiplying your dining options considerably for evenings when you want a change of scene. Commercial Bay`s flagship retail and dining complex and Britomart`s cobblestoned laneway precinct are both within easy reach. The New Zealand Maritime Museum sits right at the base of the wharf — genuinely worth an hour for anyone curious about the seafaring history that shaped this city — and the Auckland Ferry Terminal is close by with daily services to Waiheke Island, Devonport, and the Hauraki Gulf.
Worth knowing: Princes Wharf has a quieter, more residential rhythm than the Viaduct on an average weeknight, coming properly alive around events, cruise ship arrivals, and weekend evenings. For an apartment built around the calm of a sunrise, that quieter baseline rhythm is a genuine asset rather than a drawback — you get the peace at home and the buzz a five-minute walk away, whenever you want it.
Auckland is easily explored from Princes Wharf. The Auckland Ferry Terminal is a short walk with regular services to Waiheke Island and beyond. Britomart Transport Centre connects the full train network. Uber and taxis are plentiful throughout the waterfront precinct. There is no car park with this apartment — paid public parking is available nearby in the Viaduct and CBD, managed by Wilson Parking with casual, early-bird, and long-term rates. Auckland Airport is approximately 30 to 40 minutes by car or shuttle.
Please note that views and access may occasionally be affected when cruise ships are docked at the wharf — this is managed by the Ports of Auckland and outside our control, but we will always let you know in advance if we`re aware of any disruption during your stay.
This is a non-smoking, no-vaping property throughout. No parties or events. Quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Checkout is by 10:00 AM. We kindly ask all guests to help us maintain the peaceful, high-standard environment of this home by following a few simple rules:

Please respect our no-party policy and observe quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Smoking, vaping, or drug use is not permitted inside the suite or anywhere in the apartment, building, complex or balcony.
In the rare case of a noise complaint or evidence of smoking, an additional fee of up to NZD $500 may apply.
Check in available after 3pm through lock box key collection. Lock boxes are located a short distance away, full details will be sent prior to arrival. We advise collecting the keys on your way to the apartment, if coming to the city via taxi or UBER, ask the taxi to wait a second while you collect the key. The walk to the apartment from the lock box is not far, but no one wants to walk in the city with suitcases!
