Misleading Upgrade, Poor Communication, and Ruined Stay Our Zurich stay was extremely disappointing, especially as this was our honeymoon. Before our flight from Berlin, the concierge confirmed early check-in and offered an “upgrade.” While in the air (with no Wi-Fi), they changed the apartment address without prior disclosure. Upon arrival, we discovered the new location was about a 30-minute walk from Old Town—far from where we intentionally booked and unsuitable for us due to health reasons and limited restaurant access during holidays. We agreed to an upgrade, not a district change. Our request to return to the original apartment or receive a refund was refused, and the owner never contacted us. VRBO’s offered transportation credit was inadequate, leaving us no choice but to stay. The apartment had multiple issues: a non-working TV, malfunctioning dryer, unannounced maintenance visit, and constant tram noise day and night, making sleep impossible. This once-in-a-lifetime trip was deeply stressful and emotionally upsetting. I would never recommend this property and strongly caution future guests about misleading practices and poor customer service.

Good value for money

This was a good value for money right in the Old City. The booked studio was unavailable at the time of check-in, but was replaced with a bigger apartment just a hundred meters away. That apartment was stuffed with all necessary cutlery and WI-Fi worked well. The host responded fast to al inquiries and communicated in a friendly manner.

Great place to stay, near everything!

A small, cozy flat with tiny but sufficient kitchen. NO AIR CONDITIONING during a heat wave, but the fan was great and most flats in Zürich are not air conditioned. The bed was adequate for one, not for two - the mattress sagged over the edge of the support, making sleeping on the outer edge tricky. Owner was slow to reply to emails before we arrived, but was adequate once we were there - apparently he was in an auto accident, which would explain his slow responsiveness while we were there, but not in the days before we arrived. Nonetheless, he did provide what we needed, eventually, he seemed friendly, and the flat was perfect - easy walk to everything in Old Town. The REAL problem we had was with VRBO. They were unhelpful when we were trying to gain information about the rental, and absolutely insulting when we tried to leave a review. They sent me an email with links for YES or NO, but neither worked. Their Android app was equally lousy. And when I attempted to chat with their agent, Alex, he asked for info I had already provided, and when I asked why, the SOB hung up on me. I would like to visit Zurich again and stay at Spittalgasse 9, but I will NEVER use VRBO again - what a sham!

The day before our arrival I received a notice that the keys could could not be located and we would be placed at a different location. Altho the new place was nice and larger that what we needed, we were very disappointed to not be located in the old town/ walking area of Zurich that we had planned on. Communication was through someone other than the owner. I have no idea whether this property was as advertised since we never saw it.

Convenient location

The apartment itself is in a convenient location, and was well-equipped for visitors. However, it is directly over a restaurant and the cooking odors were pervasive at times. For the month of May, not having air conditioning was acceptable since a fan was provided. I'm not sure whether the hot summer months would continue to be comfortable. The location was excellent, with nearby access to the railroad. Communication with the landlord was very poor and problematic.We had paid a half a day's rent months before our stay to be able to get into the apartment from the airport, after a flight expected to land at 8:30 am. However despite repeated inquiries beginning several days before the flight, I had not received the address of the apartment or instructions for meeting the landlord for the keys. After waiting an hour at the airport to try to contact the landlord, we had to book a hotel for the first night. We heard from the landlord later that day, and he promised to refund the fee paid for early check-in, but never followed through with that. The calls at the beginning of the stay were very unpleasant, with the landlord interrupting and shouting over me. The email communication - when he finally responded - was similarly unpleasant in tone. Additionally, he asked to show the apartment to a possible future renter during the latter part of our stay in the apartment. The request, while understandable, was inconvenient and not something we had experienced before. Zurich was lovely, the apartment satisfactory, but the landlord was difficult to deal with. Because of the poor communication, we incurred a sizeable hotel bill on top of the apartment rental.
