A wonderful stop
A wonderful and peaceful overnight stay. We enjoyed the history and the host was very responsive. The Shoe was clean and plenty of amenities.

Wonderful Stay!!

Delight
It was a delight to stay in the Shoe which I saw for so many years on the way to visit my extended family in Reading, PA from Baltimore. Enjoyed the design of the shoe house and there was something quaint about the rooms that made them comforting. The hot tub and fire pit were nice additions. The host was very responsive. It was a delight!

Quite an Unusual Stay
Not many people get to sleep in an actual shoe. Staying at the Haines Shoe House will be something I will talk about for a long time. It was very clean and so nostalgic. I loved the way it was decorated and the details such as a record player and the rotary phone reminded me of my childhood. It sits on a nice property also with places to relax outside in warm weather.

Best Bridal Party
We used this house for some of a bridal party at Stone Mill Inn. It was the perfect distance and was an extra fun element to our big life event. The hosts communicated immaculately anytime that we had a question or issue. Would totally recommend for other bridal parties or even just friends! #theshoehouse

These "Old" Ladies Lived in a Shoe and Loved it!
If you love quirky, fun experiences this is definitely a great place to spend a few days! I couldn't stop giggling as soon as I rounded the curve in the road and got my first in person look at The Shoe House, and we all found the inside of the house to be just as delightful. It was the perfect place for three friends to slow down from normal life for a few days and celebrate a birthday together. The owners were communicative and friendly, which made the experience even more pleasant. I'm so glad we got to be "Old Ladies Who Live in a Shoe" for a few days!

exceeded every expectation! So FUN & Unique
The Shoe House was beyond perfect! We decided to book a short vacation this spring break and my boys couldn't have been more excited when we pulled up and they saw where we were staying. The house is spacious and laid out so efficiently. Every nook of the house is used and the hosts really provided anything you could possibly need. The family enjoyed the board games provided, the foosball table, the record player, the HOT TUB, the history and all the memorabilia in the basement. The house is near the highway but you cant hear it at all, they even left sound machines if needed (we didn't need them but it was so wisely thought out for renters possible needs). The house is in a nice, quiet field and the boys enjoyed running around and even playing football and ladder ball provided. I went to school for design and this was truly spectacular to experience. I would recommend this rental to anyone! Thank you for creating a really awesome rental that other can enjoy. Kudos!

Shoe house
Growing up in the area I drove past the Shoe house my whole life. Getting to stay there fulfilled my childhood dream. I got to share it with my parents and my 11 yr old niece. We had a fun time. I would definitely recommend staying there.

Another Birthday Wish Comes True!
I had the best time! Last year I stayed at the Shoe House (a lifetime desire - since I was around 3) as a birthday present to myself and it was perfect! This year, with warmer weather, it was even better! I was able to use the hot tub both nights for almost an hour without freezing when I got out! Nice little stools were added to the kitchen area - these were much easier to use at the table then last year when I squeezed around to the bench. The decor was changed - not as many shoes as last year, but there was more space in the hallways because a display case was moved. It just is the neatest place to stay! Can't wait to return next year for my 70th birthday!

Unique and private
The home is in fenced in lot with no close neighbors. It was nice and clean inside. Much more room than I thought there would be. They had some nice extras like a fan, shampoo, and some cooking ingredients. The entire home makes for a great conversation piece. The owners are friendly and communicate well. No contact was needed by either side. Glad they saved this place and you can see the work that went into preserving the building.

Fairytale stay

Perfect Birthday Surprise
There was a middle-aged couple who lived in a shoe, they had so many activities they didn't know what to do... I surprised my partner for his birthday with this shoe house stay and it will be an unforgettable experience for us both! So much fun quirky history, mixed with great new modern design. Also York and nearby Lancaster offer a lot of great restaurants, bars, shopping & entertainment to explore!

Charming, fun, historic landmark

50th Anniversary
My wife and I been through the Shoe House numerous times and knew about the newlyweds and major anniversaries that got to stay there. When I saw it was opening to be rented. I decided to make our 50th anniversary to be special and the Shoe House was going to be a start for our celebration

Unforgettable
The Shoe House brought smiles to our faces from the moment we saw it driving up the road until we said our goodbyes on our last day. Plenty of space for a family of 4 plus grandparents. The property is comfortable, clean and well decorated. The location is also fantastic. We were able to explore all of our favorite spots in the area and discovered how fun and lively nearby downtown York is as well. The property owners have done a wonderful job of creating a special space for families/travelers to enjoy. We hope to back one day in the future!

What a wonderful weekend!
I booked the Shoe House as a surprise for my wife on our first anniversary in September of 2023. She loved it, and so did I! We stayed for four nights and wished we could've stayed longer. The house & property are both amazing - beautiful, clean, cozy, and wonderfully historic. And the proprietors are just as amazing. I never met them in person, but it was very easy to communicate with Naomi and/or her husband through text, or through Vrbo. Fortunately we didn't have any problems during our stay, but I have no doubt they would have handled them quickly if we had. I hope the Shoe House is available for stays for a long time, because we'd definitely like to return! 10/10, 5-stars, and four thumbs up (two from me, two from my wife)!

Life in the Shoe
I toured the Shoe House with my kids when they were little. To stay at the Shoe House with my kids now that they are grown was priceless. Truly enjoyed the experience and would encourage others to do the same. Totally worth it!

Absolutely Stunning!
It was a weekend getaway for my family and a secret for the kids. The reactions and giggles our kids had when they seen it was absolutely worth it. They couldnt believe we were staying in a shoe! They will remember this trip forever. It was a quiet peaceful area and we didnt want to leave. We absolutely loved this place. It is all worth the stay.

Girls get away

This is a charming property with a great history. It was a perfect fit for our family! The kids loved the novelty of staying in a shoe, the adults loved learning about the property’s history, and we all loved having our own spaces to sleep. It is a very short drive to a variety of restaurants and stores, and was a great home base for us as we explored the surrounding area. The owners are very responsive and want to make your experience the best it can be. I highly recommend a stay in the Shoe House.

A short unique getaway weekend
Had a wonderful visit. Gave us the opportunity to stay in a unique home and provide fun family time. Playing games outside. Too hot for campfire but enjoyed relaxing around the fire pit. Grandchildren loved staying at the “ shoe house” and shopping for “shoe-vieners”.

Awesome experience
Our stay at the Shoe House could not have been better. Aside from the fact that it was a once in a lifetime experience, the accommodations were perfect. Everything that we needed was provided- the kitchen was fully stocked with cooking supplies and appliances. The house itself was comfortable and just fun to be there. The hosts were extremely responsive and helpful. We cannot be more delighted.

We loved our stay!
Staying in the shoe house is something I wanted to do since I was a little girl. It did not disappoint. The house is cozy and welcoming and there are so many nooks and crannies to explore. The furnishing and decorations are modern and fun. My 15-year-old daughter loved the record player in the toe room. The beds were very comfortable. We cooked full meals in the kitchen and picnicked outside. The location of the shoe house is beautiful countryside. With so many things to explore. We give this place our highest recommendation!

Bachelorette getaway
Was the perfect girls getaway. While being in a country setting your only 2 miles away from anything you could need. The communication with the hosts was wonderful and very prompt. We enjoyed the hot tub, a little bon fire and most of all the uniqueness of the SHOE. We wouldn’t have changed a thing and made some awesome memories. Highly recommend!!

So much fun!

Fun Birthday Celebration at the Shoe House!
We had a great stay at the Shoe House for a 60th birthday celebration weekend. We blindfolded the birthday girl upon arrival and the reaction was priceless. Check-in was very easy. The house was clean and the beds were super comfortable (so are the pillows). Historic winding steps that lead to the basement, but we found it easier to go out the front door and into the door that leads to the basement rather than going down the steps. We enjoyed listening to the vinyl records and stumbled on a very cool record store when we were out, so we added a few to the collection. York had some amazing antique stores, cafes and restaurants. We went to an Alpaca farm which just happened to be “shearing” weekend….so much fun. There is a binder at the house which is full of helpful information. Bring your own firewood for the firepit (BYOF). The only suggestions I would make is maybe a larger grill pan to cook bacon or burgers and some wine glasses. There is no grill on the property, but did ok with stovetop & oven. The owners were very quick to respond with any questions we had. Our girls weekend at the Shoe House was a success and we look forward to coming back in the future!

Pure Joy

Perfect Honeymoon getaway
Very quaint, unique, private and fun. A lot of history inside, modernized for comfort, especially loved the outdoor hot tub! Owners are suberb. Will definitely be back! Would give 10 star rating!

2 Year Old Loves Shoes
My 2 year old daughter loves shoes. My wife and I gifted the Shoe House for her 2nd birthday. It was amazing but for 2 keep a close eye on those historic yet steep stairs- we were constantly in tow but the basement was a great hang out. We did the local restaurants and donut shop. Many didn't know it was remodeled to a VRBO. The history is awesome. New owners are great. I wouldnt suggest more than 3 adult couples if you go that route. Good luck counting all the shoes on the property :) Grab some firewood to enjoy the fire pit as its not available on the property.

We had a *wonderful* stay at the Shoe House! The building is so unique, quirky, and beautiful, and the hosts are very welcoming and easy to communicate with. We celebrated my wife's birthday at the Shoe House - we had a blast playing records on the antique record player, playing Foosball in the game room, relaxing in the hot tub, and having local adventures! I highly recommend this VRBO rental!
