Tiny House Train-Middle Earth

Welcome to Middle Earth. The train runs on solar power, all your water is spring water and is a great example of up cycling and recycling. The tiny house train is located on a 10 acre/4.2 hectare organic blueberry farm and was restored in 2018 and turned into a tiny house in May 2019. There is a cozy log burner plus heat pumps and the TV is a smart TV and has Netflix supplied . Wifi is Starlink with laptop friendly kitchen table. Self checkin after 2pm. No light pollution and beautiful star filled skies for miles.
Please note that the sofa bed is optional and it need to be added as an extra charge of twenty five dollars per night for two single guests and sixty dollars for a third guest. Please let me know if you would like to book the sofa bed via the messaging system of this platform.
Our property offers a unique off-grid experience in a peaceful natural setting. To ensure it's the right fit for you, please note:

Access is via a steep, winding hill road that some guests may find challenging if they are uncomfortable driving narrow or hilly roads.
The accommodation features a composting toilet rather than a conventional flush toilet. While it is clean, well maintained, and easy to use, it is different from what many guests may be accustomed to.
This property is best suited to guests who enjoy rustic, eco-friendly accommodation and are comfortable with the realities of staying in a natural, off-grid environment.

Make your Upper Hutt stay a little more magical with an adventure through local film country. Explore Kaitoke Regional Park, where native forest became Rivendell in The Lord of the Rings. Wander the woodland trails, cross the swing bridge and stop at the replica Elvish archway for a memorable holiday photo. Pack a picnic and enjoy a day surrounded by the scenery that helped bring Middle-earth to life.
Discover another little piece of Middle-earth at Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt, the filming location for the Gardens of Isengard in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, where Gandalf and Saruman stroll through the gardens. Enjoy the leafy surroundings, take a gentle walk or settle in for a picnic. Although the movie sets are no longer there, the park offers a lovely way to combine film-location exploring with a relaxed afternoon outdoors.
The local movie connections go beyond Middle-earth. Upper Hutt was also among the filming locations for Pete’s Dragon (2016), while nearby Mangaroa provided the rural farm setting for Wolf Man (2025). Whether you’re a devoted film fan or simply love exploring beautiful landscapes, there’s plenty of inspiration for your next day out.
Middle-earth’s story continues in the wider region: The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is being made in Wellington, where filming began in July 2026, with a cinema release planned for late 2027. It’s another reason for film lovers to enjoy the region’s movie-making heritage during their stay.
A note for film-loving guests
Kaitoke Regional Park and Harcourt Park are public places to explore. Expect real landscapes rather than complete movie sets; the Rivendell archway is a replica. The other film connections mentioned here are not promises of tours or accessible sets. Please respect private property and check current park information before visiting.
