No había ascensor y la habitación tenía bastantes hormigas, incluso en la cama, con lo que no dormimos a gusto. La 1ª noche pasamos frío. La señora del desayuno era encantadora

Comfortable for a night in Whanganui.
Nice little hotel right in the center of town. Well renovated old building with a few quirks. Comfortable spacious room with AC and solid WiFi.

Nice place to stay, room a bit warm in summer
We stayed at the Rutland Arms as part of a longer stay on our drive down to Wellington. The staff were all very friendly and the room decor was very nice. We didn't make it to the bar to get a drink in the evening, but the breakfast was good with a choice of cereals, yoghurt, berries, toast, and coffee. Only negatives were that the room was quite warm (even though the ceiling fan was on) and there was some paint missing in the bathroom that hindered the overall room decor. The hallway was much cooler than the room and the room is facing the sun, so perhaps adding blackout curtains to keep the sun out during the day might be an easy fix.

The Rutland Arms Hotel is a gem in the heart of Whanganui. The individual and thoughtful decor of the rooms captures the essence of the historic origins of the hotel and the restaurant and bar are bustling and cosy, offering a varied menu and catering very well for GF. The continental breakfast, included in the tariff was excellent. We’ll definitely be back.

Arrived just before 8:30pm. Reception closed, went to bar to check in. Informed kitchen was closed other than chips or wedges which is illegal in NZ as food must be provided. Eventually we were offered a chicken salad or burger which we declined. Basically we went to our room at 9:30pm as they started to vacuum the bar area with no food and a couple of drinks. Admittedly it was a Monday but $190 per night is too steep for what was on offer not a lot.

We enjoyed our short stay here. Whanganui is a great place, and the hotel is well-located. It had a fine atmosphere. We walked everywhere. The room was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was great. The host was very friendly. Would recommend.

The wife and I stayed for one night on our way to New Plymouth and we were not disappointed. The place has a certain charm. Check in was quick -Thank you Daniel-, the room was very clean as well as being spacious enough. Bathroom very clean and the usual amenities provided. Free parking is available at the back with direct access to the rooms so guests may skip going through the pub/front. Accessibility may be an issue for those who cannot or find it hard to take the stairs since the rooms are all on the first floor. Breakfast is included but it's very limited (the quintessential Weetbix and toast with jam and butter). However, there are very good breakfast options a la carte. We will certainly return whenever in Whanganui.

I would need a guarantee that if I stayed there again that I would not get the room above the bar/kitchen. Very noisy and being woken up each morning by the kitchen staff starting music etc in the early hours is not relaxing

Top class accomodation in the beautiful Whanganui.
Outstanding hotel accomodation right in the middle of the beautiful Whanganui City. Rooms are renovated to a very high standard. They match the vintage feel of the city well. The restaurant and menu are superb. The service in both the evening meal and breakfast was first class. We were warmly welcomed when we checked in and checked out of the hotel. Without doubt our recommendation is to go and have a night or two in this perfectly equipped hotel, you won’t be disappointed.
