![It was built in 1693/94 by Johann Bernhard Fischer of Erlach for Ernst Rüdiger of Starhemberg under the name Jagdschloss Engelhartstetten. In 1725 the castle was purchased by Prince Eugene of Savoy . It received its present appearance under Maria Theresia around 1765 by the court architect Nikolaus Pacassi . The paintings of the Festaal are by Jean-Baptiste Pillement . From 1945 onwards there was an increasing decline of the castle. Since 1980, it has been restored and now serves as an exhibition and venue. In 2016 Schloss Niederweiden, for example, will be one of four locations of the exhibition on the centenary of the death of Emperor Franz Joseph . In the former Lustschlösschen of the Habsburgs exhibition shows on hunting and leisure are shown in the special show. "Great experience- unique hotel - staff was excellent for service and provided great area tourist info. The location is great- in a small town, but parking is inside the hotel boundaries. We really enjoyed the terrace with a great view of the Danube- great place to sip and watch the river boats float by. Breakfast was very good as well- made to order items along with buffet items. Although this is a more expensive hotel, it was worth it."
