We needed a quiet getaway and after an illness cancelled our first booking, Phil, the host was understanding, compassionate and willing to negotiate or second booking. Phil was entertaining and pleasant. He even brought Betty-Sue, the pony, over for a visit while on a walk.
I'm not going to lie, I was shocked at first and very sad. The beautiful photos of the property are old photos. The unit we rented had no grass, flowers or patio lights. The inside photos are accurate, furnished with vintage mix-match pieces, except the bed and pillow 👌🏼which were comfortable. I spent a couple hours cleaning things I knew we would be touching. The place could do with a professional cleaning from time to time.
The pitch-black nights, coyote howls, hawks and stillness was what we were after and found it tenfold. Every morning we’d feed the chickens, horses and goats. The perfect start to a stressless day. The unit was the perfect size and once you get used to a frig with no bulb, an old coffee maker that leaks and no broom, we settled quickly. Phil was sweet to drop off a few supplies after his trip to town. The Ruko system great for movies/tv but nothing live like news or sports.
We will return and look forward to it. However next time ill bring cleaning gloves, cleaner, extra dish soap, my own body soap and conditioner and large coffee mugs.. A large blanket to cover the sofa and fingers crossed the sofa pillows get cleaned or replaced soon. It's a very large property giving many trails for walking the dog, however, the property seems to be cared for by Phil alone. This property needs more hands! Trees need to be fell and horse fields tended to.
IF YOU LOVE AND UNDERSTAND COUNTRY LIFE, this is divine. IF YOU HAVE A HORSE, bring it! This is a quiet hidden gem, well lived in and loved. Didn't go in with higher expectations as I did unless you brought vodka 😉 I REPEAT WE WILL RETURN JUST FOR THE QUIET AND SIMPLE, no phone, WEEKEND.
