A Little Piece of Heaven in BACOVA
Each year, my family gathers for Christmas and the week after. Family includes my husband, 2 adult children and their Dad. We look for a special place each year that will give us space and closeness! Holly House was just great and we will be back! Host was terrific to work with from start to finish!

Great house, great location!
We had a wonderful fall visit to Bacova. The home was perfect for our needs. We traveled from Ohio to meet our daughter who was on fall break from UVA Law School. We were able to bring our 2 chocolate labs and enjoyed hiking the trails on the owner’s property. The leaves were just starting to turn so the landscape was beautiful. The home had more than enough space and the kitchen had everything we needed for us to cook meals. The trail maps and other local information available was a nice touch and super helpful. The house was conveniently located for us to explore Moomaw Lake, The Homestead, and Hot Springs. We’d definitely rent again!

Lovely well-maintained house w/ plenty of room for family of four
Very clean, well-maintained house w/ 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths (plus extra shower in basement) and well-furnished kitchen, living and dining room provided plenty of room for family of four adults. Plus nice open-air deck and screen porch for two pets. Highlight is the access kindly provided by owners to miles of well-maintained walking trails through forest & fields on their sizable mountain farm property a few hundred yards up the road. Location also quiet and pleasant and very short drive to Warm Springs and Hot Springs. Recommend Garth Newel classical music center, Waterwheel and Garden Cafe restaurants in Warm Springs, Bacova Beer Co in Hot Springs, and the northern end access to Jackson River Trail 13 miles south on Rte 687 at Natural Well in Alleghany County.

Bacova Va 2023 trip
We had an excellent experience staying at the holly house for 5 days. The house had plenty of room and all the creature comforts of home you would expect. The use of the owners farm trails, creeks and adjacent river lot made for easy hikes with the dogs and fun on-property experiences. We took advantage of Homestead amenities and booked a kayak trip with the local guide. Good times and many thanks to Pat for opening up the property for renters to utilize. A real treat!

Escape to beauty and a cooler climate
The renovated farmhouse is in a a tiny community a short distance from the Homestead Resort. We loved the open lower floor plan as all our guests had comfortable seating. The kitchen area was well stocked. The screened porch and large deck were so relaxing to sit on and enjoy the scenery. A highlight was the trail offered on the owners' property. We enjoyed walking in the forest along the brook. The upstairs had 3 bathrooms and great water pressure in the showers. We loved it!

This is an absolutely beautiful house, inside and out! We loved the open downstairs, screen porch, and outdoor front porch! The bedrooms were wonderful, two with private baths! We had family staying next door at Hemlock House so we were able to bring other family over for dinner in both houses! Very close to Hot Springs and Warm Springs. Wonderful hiking trails! Love love love this place!

This property has everything you need if you want a quiet retreat. The decor is lovely and well-appointed. The beds are comfortable. I even took a nice bubble bath! There's plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in the area as well. Taking a drive to the overlook of Lake Moomaw is a must and hiking on the owner's property is quite a treat as well! Our family enjoyed our stay here and hope to return again in the future. The atmosphere of this home is so warm, welcoming and tranquil!

nice house
we all really liked this place. nicely decorated, comfy furniture, bedrooms were good as well. it was clean and well kept. the house is not on the river, which we were confused about. it does, however, have a nice fire pit area that we were unaware of. patrick the owner was responsive to my questions which was appreciated. i would recommend holly house.

Such a great location - access to hiking / fishing
The highlight of this trip is definitely the prime access to fishing the Jackson River and hiking the owner's property. The house has a wonderful wood stove that we used the entire time. Great spot in the mountains!

Fabulous House
The house was lovely. The area was beautiful, quiet, serene. Wish we had another day or two to enjoy it more. Came to Holly House with my mom, sister and two sisters in law to enjoy a day soaking at Serenity Garden at The Homestead. The host was great and even helped me find his walking trails although I I would not consider it an easy hike and I think you should let people know that. My only other minor complaint is the upstairs shower curtain was a bit moldy. It needed to be cleaned or changed. Would definitely stay here again!!!

Wonderful respite in a beautiful area
Holly House is one of the cleanest rental properties we've ever experienced. Kitchen is impressive: Though it's small, it has one of everything you need. And each pot has a lid that fits! Beds are comfortable. We loved the screened porch. Perhaps best of all: Hal's Point. Pat is so generous to share this and the trails on his property with his guests. Hal's Point, on the Jackson River, is beautiful, like a movie set. We spent lots of time there wading, fishing, and reading. So peaceful. And we could bring our dogs on vacation with us. Many thanks!

Peaceful and Sweet Home!
The home is situated ok the edge of a rural town and it is absolutely beautiful! The house felt so warm and inviting and we all enjoyed our short time spent there. The screened in porch was so nice and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook meals! We also had access to trails on owner’s property as well as access to the Jackson River and the scenery along both was stunning! What a picture perfect setting! We enjoyed exploring the area :) Thank you for letting us share your little slice of heaven!!

Nice place!
Very comfortable home. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and plenty of bathrooms for an older home. Owners property (located across the street) is beautiful and has wonderful walking trails. Location was close to many area attractions. Pat (owner) was responsive and very hospitable. Definitely would stay here again.

Charming home
Peaceful location with beautiful views of the countryside. Comfortable beds, close to a convenience store and plenty of fish in the ponds. My children were thrilled with the fish they caught and loved playing with the owner’s dogs when we walked to their trail. Also a great spot for star gazing.

Good Space
The property is nice and clean, the bedrooms are small, enough space for you to walk around the beds. The kitchen get crowded with more than one in it. You have everything you need though, perfect for the weekend and I love visiting old homes. They have lots of GOOD character. We liked the open layout of the downstairs and the screen porch was very useful. Unfortunately, it rained nearly the whole time we were there, so this was a good space for us to dry out in. We enjoyed exploring and hiking in this area, it’s truly beautiful. We didn’t have much communication with the host, but I’m hoping that wasn’t a bad thing. We would stay here again.

Lovely weekend getaway
We had a lovely 3 night stay at Pat's property. Pat answered our questions and there is lots of info on activities in the area at the house. The house was very clean and had plenty of room for us. It felt cosy while also being spacious. We enjoyed making our meals in, eating on the screened in porch, watching movies by the fire in the living room, making a campfire and roasting marshmallows outside and the lovely hike around Pat's property across the street. We also enjoyed grabbing delicious sandwiches from the Milk House Market after hiking near the Homestead.

February Retreat
We had a wonderful stay at ‘Holly House’. It was the perfect get away for our family of five and our dog to enjoy the abundant nature direct from the property. There is an amazing 2.5 mile loop through open fields and private woodlands. Pat was very responsive to initial questions and queries and they helped to clear the driveways and paths of snow and keep a plentiful supply of wood for the amazing wood burning stove in the living room. The house was cosy, comfortable and clean and is situated to look out onto open farmland and to hear the stream from the porch. As it was colder we didn’t get to enjoy the outside decking/eating areas but have no doubt these would be fabulous spaces in the spring/summer. The internet was very reliable for 5 people to be working and online school. Overall I would highly recommend this property for a ‘get away from it all’ and back to nature break/holiday. We hope to go back and experience it in warmer weather!

Weekend away
The house was a cozy spot for a quiet weekend away. The accommodations were nice- comfortable beds, warm fireplace, and good internet. Plenty of utensils for cooking. If you’re looking to get away from it all, this is the spot. I’d like to come back in warmer weather and take advantage of the trails.

Perfect fall getaway
Very clean and spacious. Conveniently located within a short drive to a groceries and restaurants. The house all amenities. But connectivity will be an issue. During our stay the wifi was spotty, the wired phone lines were down and it was hard to get a hold of the property manager mainly because cell networks in general are spotty in the area, which is understandable. But once we did we managed by connecting the neighboring properties Wifi. The private trail was very pretty.

Unfortunately, it turned out that the phone line had gone dead due to a problem with the phone company. Very unusual but impacted the internet as well. They sent a tech out and fixed the line. The internet is otherwise excellent!

Unplugging in the VA Mountains
If you're looking to unplug from the hustle and bustle of life, look no further. The home was well appointed with comfortable beds and furniture. The kitchen had everything you'll need to cook up a tasty meal. Screened porch was a delight with the crisp mountain mornings. All around a great experience.

Great place with steep hikes
House was as advertised. Great place to spend some time in the mountains with friends and kids. One warning, the nearby trail is tough! Valley down to the creek is steep, making for some long vertical hiking.

Beautiful place for a quiet weekend getaway!
House was comfortable and as stated. Pat was accessible for questions. The private hiking trail was beautiful! We enjoyed access to this wonderful property and spent an afternoon at the trout pond/dam and waterfall. We appreciated it’s beautiful and shady location since the sunny part of the walk was a bit warm for the older member of our party. The resident horses greeting us as the trail opened back up to the front pasture was a nice surprise. Our lab had a great time running and swimming! I enjoy photography and had no shortage of subjects including a Scarlet Tanager and hummingbird that each posed for several minutes in the tree right by the deck. The Milk House Market was close by and a really nice option for sandwiches, pasta salad and coffee. It was a beautiful, relaxing place for a weekend getaway with family. Would consider returning in the fall to see the colors and explore the area further.

Fantastic place in Bacova
My family and I had a wonderful stay in this well-stocked and extremely well-kept and clean home. We enjoyed the hiking trails across the street and even saw a black bear near the trout pond during our early morning hike. Our one criticism is with the mattress in the master bedroom, which was way too firm and had a very squeaky box spring. Regardless, we would definitely recommend this home and thoroughly appreciated Pat's quick responses to our messages during our stay.

Holly House was great! The house was fully equipped, clean and in great shape. Yard was well kept.
Holly House is conveniently located for all the activities we wanted to experience (hiking, golf, restaurants, etc). Access to the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and exercise equipment at the Dairy Farm was a special benefit. While in the neighborhood, almost everyone would wave to us, even from their cars! Don't forget to experience the 2.5 mile private trail on the Haynes farm across the street! We plan to go back for a few days in the fall!
