Una casa encantadora
Con todo tipo de detalles, decorada con un gusto exquisito y un jardín despampanante, la estancia en esta casa de Vancouver nos resulto deliciosa. Un barrio tranquilo y con aparcamiento gratuito siempre disponible en la misma calle, muy de agradecer. Dorothy es muy simpática y nos ayudó en lo que pudo pese a nuestras deficiencias con el idioma. La recomendamos con total confianza. Una gozada. Gracias Dorothy.

Cute place near the city centre
We arrived at the property a little later than we have mentioned to Dorothy, she was very sweet and stayed up and waited for us to ensure we find the entrance and that we are able to access the property (11PM). The house is 100 years old this year and is really cute with a luscious back yard which is really pretty to look at. The place was clean, no issues with cleanliness. The property is close to the city centre by car and has a lot of good restaurants nearby if you don’t want to go so far. We always found parking on the street where the house it. Overall, we recommend Dorothy’s cute upstairs loft area if you are visiting Vancouver. Thanks again!

AWESOME
Dorothy, was a wonderful host. her property was more than beautiful, garden sitting area, and right from our room she has a patio with umbrella to enjoy a wine or a cocktail. The room was immaculately clean she had everything you could possibly need. stove, refrigerator, oven, toaster, rice cooker, microwave,& hairdryer The loft was very large and very comfortable. The loft also has a reading/library room, Great location!! Commercial drive 2 blocks from her place 80 restaurants/shops. 13 miles from airport, 4 miles from Cruise Line. We loved it. and plan to see Dorothy and her property soon Erika Butryn Laguna Woods, Calif

Very charming!
We loved this property! Dorothy was very friendly and responsive to requests and questions and the space was as described. The yard is full of beautiful plants and flowers (we were there in August). It felt like we were in a fairy garden. Location is close to many restaurants and stores with parking in front of the house. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Vancouver.

Lovely spot

Vancouver neighbourhood stay
Great location for restaurants and transport into Downtown. Lovely yard to enjoy and Ozzie, her dog, is a bonus. Dorothy was great to sit and chat with after a long day out and about. Only downside is the bed is a double and we thought it was a Queen. It was cosy 🙄

East Vancouver attic flat
We had a wonderful time staying in this attic flat. It was easy to find with a separate entrance. It was clean and well organized. The owner installed an air conditioner just before we arrived which made a huge difference in the flat as it was a really hot week in the summer when we stayed. Parking was on the street but there was always a spot close to the flat available. The owner's beautiful gardens in the rear of the property were a welcome, very private place to relax. Communications with the owner were very easy and regular which helped with any questions we had.

Nice find in Vancouver
Dorothy's house is conveniently located just off of Commercial Drive, on a tree lined residential street. The upstairs one-bedroom space was well-appointed with lots a seating, a kitchen with everything you'd need to cook (but with all the nearby restaurant options, I'm not sure why you would) and, thankfully, an air conditioner and fans. The bed was a bit too soft for us, but that's a personal preference. We didn't have a car, and rode the Sky Train into downtown Vancouver each day. It was an easy 15 walk to the station down Commercial Drive or through the neighborhood streets to check out the beautiful homes and gardens. If we were too tired, we caught the bus at the station that stops a block from the house. Dorothy was a fantastic host, welcoming, friendly, and respectful of our privacy. Overall great experience. We would stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay at this property, garden was beautiful to relax in after a day of activities. Within walking distance to everything you need and more. Would definitely come back when we are in Vancouver.

A Quiet Oasis in the Suburbs
The perfect place for a week long stay, older style Canadian bungalow providing a home away from home. Accommodations were very comfortable, with beautiful gardens. Close to retail area and public transport. Host was very welcoming, helpful and accommodating.

The location is convenient to transit as well as some shops and dining. The suite has a kitchenette with essentials and full-size refrigerator. Several seating areas are available for relaxing and planning excursions. The double bed is very comfortable, and the hostess was nice enough to provide an air mattress for our stay so my teenage son could sleep in the larger room. Nice quiet street and beautiful house and garden.

Commercial Drive discovery
We stayred in Vancouver for Bach festival. Know Vancouver well but no previous knowledge of Commercial Drive area. Enjoyed the area and the suite. Met our needs.

We spent four days at Dorothy‘s house and really enjoyed it. The host is very welcoming and let us use her beautiful yard which we really appreciated during the heat wave. There are a lot of restaurants nearby and getting into downtown on a bicycle takes about 15 minutes. We would stay again

Wonderful accommodation at an urban oasis. Incredibly beautiful yard. The host and her furry child were so warm, friendly and accomodating. Everything was absolutely perfect. Loved being so close to Commercial Drive.

Paradise back yard
This property is perfectly located near anything and everything you could need or want. Dorothy was an amazing host. Check in was easy. We had a rental car so at times parking was scarce but always within walking distance. It was unseasonably warm but she provided fans. All in all we would definitely go back!

Perfect way to start a vacation
This is my second time staying at Dorothy’s rental. I love the area with all the excitement of Commercial Drive so close. The upstairs unit is cozy, clean and contains everything you need for a short or longer stay. Dorothy is so friendly and gracious. I will surely stay here again on my next visit

What a pleasure to be able to escape the urban hubbub and sit in a beautiful back yard/garden. Owner has a great comfortable back garden (and a friendly dog) available and easily accessible to guests. Six stars!!!!!

Great location!
The suite was lovely! Cozy and quiet. We had no issue finding parking and ended up walking or using the skytrain for our entire stay. Very convenient location, close Commercial Drive, various shops and restaurants.

A good place to stay, a beautiful garden when you want a moment to relax. If you want to cook maybe a little limited but aside from that we had a lovely stay and Dorothy was very helpful.

The owner of this place was wonderfully nice. She gave us an initial tour and let us know where everything was. There is a nice patio with flowers my girlfriend loved! She truly had a great garden! As far as the space goes it is slightly smaller than I expected. The bed was extremely comfortable and it made us enjoy our stay that much more. It made it even better that there is a street full of food and other places right down the road from this place. If you're looking at staying somewhere in Vancouver and you want somewhere to really relax, this is the place. It's pretty quiet and friendly neighborhood.

Location location location
Super cute upper suite in beautiful Victorian style home. The unit was cozy but had plenty of room. There's no a/c or TV but we didn't need either one, even staying in June. The location is in walking distance to Commercial Dr making it convenient to tons of restaurants and nightlife. The garden and flowers on the property are gorgeous. Easy access to freeways but parking was a bit cumbersome since parking in front of the home is permit only. You can easily find parking on an adjacent street. If you are looking for seclusion this may not be the place for you, but we were happy to chat with Dorothy and the tenants who occupy the downstairs unit. Dorothy was a wonderful host.

Practically Perfect in Every Way
I was so lucky to stay at 1849 Venables on my trip to Vancouver this week. Dorothy is a wonderful, thoughtful host who has anticipated just about anything a visitor would need in a rental. The unit is the second floor of a lovely garden home, with a well-equipped kitchen and lots of comfortable seating -- perfect for up to two people. Bonus -- you get access to a gorgeous, big garden, with views of a spectacular sunset. Buses are frequent, and they get you downtown in about 20 minutes. If you need the LRT for longer distances, it's close enough, just a short bus ride or a 20-minute walk away. Though I've been to Vancouver many times, I'd never realized that Commercial Drive is such an interesting place, with cafés, restaurants, fresh fruit stands, and shops. It's less than a five-minute walk from the house, and the next time I stay, I'll plan a half-day just to stroll and take it all in. I hope I'll be welcome to book here on future trips to the city because, really, why would anyone ever want to stay anywhere else??

Prime location and cozy
This cozy apartment is located in a prime neighborhood and easily accessible to public transit. Dorothy was friendly, knowledgeable and accessible. If you're a dog lover needing a quiet place to work, relax or enjoy the city, don't hesitate to book. We enjoyed our stay and felt refreshed to return home.

Dorothy is very nice and accomodating. She has two very friendly dogs. They wanted to welcome us by jumping up on us to say hello. Not being dog people, we were overwhelmed. The apartment is cozy. A bit of mustiness due to the wooden walls and ceiling, I think. Also, there is no television. The windows opened so there was always fresh air. The parking is an issue. It is on street but also shared with permitted spaces. Watch for parking signs. Arriving late afternoon may not get you a space in front. We parked on a side street a few times. The immediate neighborhood is lovely but walking to restaurants you may meet several homeless and generally sketchy people. The rainy weather was also part of our visit. Dorothy was there with much needed umbrellas! Thank you Dorothy! On the negative side, the apartment could use a thorough cleaning and decluttering.

Hi MaryAnn, thank you for your review. I am sorry that you felt it was not sufficiently clean and wish you had mentioned it. With regards to the musty smell, I believe it was the Sisal carpet that you were smelling, and I am sorry that the dogs made you uncomfortable. They are enthusiastic and did like you very much. With regards to the TV, or lack thereof, I clearly state in the suite description that there is no TV, however you may not have seen that. I hope your future travels live up to your expectations and regret that my suite did not. All the best, Dorothy

Charming, cozy retreat.
This little attic suite is beautifully finished and very comfortable. After a long day of seeing the sights it really felt like coming home. The location couldn’t be better in terms of food with dozens of restaurants within a few minutes’ walk and plenty of shops to pick up anything you might need for breakfast or snacks. Dorothy is an excellent host, friendly and helpful but respectful of privacy. The only caution minor I would offer is that if you’re using public transport you’ll have to factor in significant journey times. The bus service is frequent, convenient and reliable, but it’s over an hour to UBC and about 45 minutes to Stanley Park. We actually enjoyed the bus rides, and if you’re in a car or on bikes the journey times will be much less, but travellers with limited time and a full check list of must-sees should perhaps take note. We loved this place and would definitely stay again.

Great location, not far from downtown with lots of shops and tasty food!
We had a wonderful time staying with Dorothy! She greeted us with open arms along with her pups. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and cheese that we picked up on a Commercial in the beautifully kept backyard. A peaceful and calming happy hour location. Make sure you also visit the local breweries, Uprising Breads Bakery and La Casa Gelato all within close walking distance.

awesome! close to food.
Dorothy was very friendly and kind, and easy to talk to. The space was very cute and well stocked and clean. Backyard is quiet and peaceful. Really enjoyed my stay here. the bed is a bit small for 2 people but its fine for a short term stay. Loved her bedding, super comfortable, and very nice towels. her 2 dogs were really cute and sweet and quiet. overall would recommend this place to stay, there is no AC though so it is a little warm in the summer months.
