I strongly advise against booking with Southern Belle. The main issue was not the property itself, but the lack of service from the management team.
The house was not beachfront as advertised, but on the sound side of the island. There were several maintenance issues: a cabinet hanging off its hinges, one bed with a strong odor, and windows full of dead bugs and filth.
Our stay coincided with Hurricane Helene, and despite reaching out to Southern Belle before arrival for guidance, they referred us to our (nonexistent) travel insurance and refused to offer any flexibility, insisting the island wasn’t under a storm warning. As the storm progressed, we informed them we would delay arrival by a day for safety. They assured us everything would be ready.
Upon arrival, we found a tree blocking the driveway. Southern Belle’s solution was to park a mile away and walk with our five young children on a busy road. They claimed a service order had been placed to remove the tree, but after inconsistent communication about whether it was the city or HOA’s responsibility, we ended up borrowing a saw from a neighbor to remove it ourselves. Southern Belle’s only response? “Thanks for letting us know.”
Their failure to inspect the property post-storm and their poor communication reflected a lack of concern for guest safety and satisfaction. Multiple locals even warned us that Southern Belle has a poor reputation, and after our experience, I can see why.
