Tregongon House - a holiday home that sleeps 13 guests in 6 bedrooms

  • Tregongon House is a magical, sprawling family home that is the perfect spot for larger groups to enjoy the idyllic location. This is one of the most dog friendly properties in the area accepting 4 dogs - but maybe more on request. There is a stunning open plan kitchen dining area with a wealth of character features including a large wood-burning stove nestled in an Inglenook fireplace, the traditional is blended seamlessly with modern luxury and an American style fridge freezer with ice dispenser and Everhot electric range cooker compliment the kitchen. There are two further living areas so children do not need to be under your feet and the extensive gardens are a delight. The bedrooms are awash with character and charm and the "dormitory wing" is perfect for 6 children in two bedrooms - they would love it!

St Mawes is one of the most exclusive traditional villages in the Country, with a wealth of activities within close reach. Historic Castles from the era of Henry VIII, glistening blue waters, bustling beaches, Cornish Pubs, award-winning restaurants, amazing coastal walks, ferries to different locations, little motor boats, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards, all available for rental. (During the season) The Roseland peninsula has a huge variety of places to explore, there are many beaches, some with golden sands, some with shingle, all with a splattering of rock pools, there are secluded coves, towering cliffs, and the famous lighthouse at St Anthony. (Fraggle Rock for everyone of a certain age!) The artists' haven of Portscatho is also well worth a visit, try to book in at the Hidden Hut for some amazing al fresco dining above the stunning Porthcurnick Beach or try either of the 2 excellent pubs in the village, the Plume of Feathers in the Square or The Standard Inn at the top of the hill. Veryan is in the heart of the Roseland Peninsula and is only a short drive or a nice walk from the stunning Carne and Pendower beaches. The village itself is most famous for the stunning thatched roundhouses at each entrance to the village, there is a quaint village shop, a lovely pub and a picturesque village green and duck pond. Form Veryan it is well worth a visit to the traditional fishing villages of Portloe and Portholland, West and East, they are nestled above stunning little beaches and harbours and the coastal walks from both are amazing.

Tregongon House

Overall the house was pleasantly decorated and had lots of old charm. However, it could do with a really deep clean so that there is a fresh slate for changeover cleans. There were cobwebs above each doorway and in all of the windows (including the bedrooms). The insides of the draws and cupboards in the kitchen were very grubby and there were personal effects in the wardrobes upstairs (perhaps these could be moved to a locked cupboard when the property is rented out). The carpets need to be replaced as they are very marked and this unfortunately gives an overall feel of uncleanliness. The property also smelt damp, which I appreciate comes with the territory, as it is an old property, but a few air fresheners here and there would give a freshness to the property. Finally, the key for the lean to conservatory was nowhere to be found and we needed to open doors to let some air in, as it was very hot during our stay. If it's not possible for that door to be opened, it would be helpful for that to be stated somewhere.
