Our first sea side stay.
We love this place, totally private and secret. John is the perfect host. The couple minutes it takes from town to the SBR… is amazing all by itself. The small secret beach was a bit slippery and muddy close to the bottom but we made it down. The deck is unbelievable and the room was really clean and nice. I would stay again.

Deserving of its perfect ratings! From a seasoned trader.
Gorgeous location, breathtaking ocean/ sea-stack views. Big west facing deck with great chairs & a roof protecting from all but the most blowing rains. Many coastal hiking trails, very close by. Cozy super clean room/bath, well stocked with lots of little extras. John is a most accommodating & wonderful host! Very available if you need him but invisible if you want privacy. Great Wi-Fi. Solar battery back up if the power goes out ( very common in these parts in winter). All the positive reviews for the Secret Beach Retreat are well deserved! Thanks John for sharing this beautiful piece of Nature with us!

Ocean view/Private/Secret Beach
Nothing beats that ocean view. It was absolutely beautiful. When I booked the place I wasnt aware the owner lived on the property, I was a little hesitant but in all 4 days spent there I didnt see a soul. Very private. The hike down to the beach is frosting on cake. Bring an extra pair of hiking boots lots of mud and water on all near by trails. Would def stay here again. ♡

Gorgeous Spot and Excellent Host
I was blown away by this property. In addition to a million dollar view, the room is clean and thoughtfully equipped. John provides excellent communication and is very helpful. He knows how to give guests privacy and also make himself accessible if needed. I cannot recommend this enough. We would love to visit again.

Excellent little quiet getaway for solo travelers or couples. The view from the property and the deck is breathtakingly beautiful. I got a chance to meet the property owner John, and he was very friendly and more than happy to provide any information I needed. The local loaf of bread and hard boiled eggs left in the room for guests were a nice touch. Lots of local eateries with a mile of the property. I hope I get a chance to visit again soon.

Amazing View

Wonderful Stay
Very clean and comfortable unit. The views to the ocean are truly unique with surf and stone pillars in the ocean a delight to look at from the room and deck.

Trinidad Secret Beach Retreat
This place was even nicer than the photos depicted! Immaculately clean, and obviously new construction. Comfy bed, GORGEOUS view of the ocean waves crashing onto the rocks below, nice chairs on the deck to watch the sunset. Vase of beautiful fresh flowers on the deck table! Host John had provided a loaf of local fresh sourdough bread, butter and jelly, freshly ground coffee, and also hard boiled eggs in our fridge! What a welcoming touch. He gave us good tips on some great hikes through the redwoods too! The steep trail down to the beach was fun! But would NOT recommend for someone not in shape, as it would probably be pretty challenging for some. There was a rope swing on a tree mid way down the trail, perfect to stop and rest or photo op. No tv on the room, but didn’t miss it since we were exhausted from our daily hikes and also brought a book to read. It was a little strange to only communicate with host through text and never see him, but we also felt very private and secluded even though he lives upstairs. There were lots of good restaurants in town just a minute or two drive from the house, a nice little grocery store for supplies, and I still can’t get over the fabulous views of the ocean at almost every turn, and of course an easy drive to see the big trees. I would highly recommend staying here at Secret Beach Retreat!

Stunning view
John's special Secret Beach Retreat is just that. The view is absolutely stunning and the large deck on the ocean side makes the room feel twice as big. We had our bicycles so were able to just park the car and use our bikes to explore. A truly wonderful beach is half a mile away, the town of Trinidad is about a mile and Sue Meg(formerly Patrick's Point) State Park is within biking distance. We really appreciated the quiet privacy, cleanliness, and peacefulness of John's special place and the beauty of the surrounding area, and can hardly wait to return.

Perfect getaway!!!
If you want a great getaway spot in Humboldt County, this is the place. It definitely has the wow factor, beautiful modern room, comfortable bed, amazing deck with a great view of the ocean. On a clear night, the view of the sunset is breathtaking!!! John is an excellent host, easy check-in and check out, great communication. The sour dough bread was a nice bonus! We will definitely rent this property again.

Beautiful locale
First of all, this property has a gorgeous view of the ocean from the bedroom window! As a guest, you have a bedroom, private bath and personal deck overlooking the ocean. Even though there is no kitchen, John, the host, has it set up with most conveniences you would need, such as a mini refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and coffee, provided drinking water, dishes, etc. He even washed our dishes for us daily! For a small town, Trinidad had several restaurants to choose from and we enjoyed dining out while there. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely would stay there again if in the area.

Best and most scenic getaway along Humboldt county coast and redwoods
Clean, comfortable, practical, amazing location with view overlooking the rocky shoreline of Trinidad CA and access to hidden beach. Short drive to Humboldt redwood State Park. Near good restaurants. John the landlord is super attentive to every need, all is well explained and Organized and respects one’s privacy. It’s 5 star +++

Can't beat the view
We stayed 2 nights while visiting Redwood State/National Park. It was such a pleasant surprise arriving to find the most amazing view of the ocean. The accommodations were great. Very clean and comfortable. The check in process was very easy and John was very responsive to any questions that we had. The best part about returning after a long day of hiking/exploring is that we had a front row seat to the sunset! Overall, a great experience.

My stay at Secret Beach was perfect. The space was perfectly equipped for a weekend stay with an ocean view. The location couldn't have been better. We were cozy and felt safe. I can't wait to stay at this location again!

This stay was by far the cleanliness of many! If you want quiet and clean, this is the place. The property is absolutely beautiful and the host was friendly & easy to work with. There is one small window in the room that is not big enough for both people to look out completely while on the bed. If you are planning on cooking, this isn’t your spot. Eating out every day is necessary. There is a small fridge, coffee pot, and a microwave. No dogs and no kids. Very close to downtown Trinidad! Overall I would rate this stay 4.5-5.

Sleeping with the Surf
Located on a beautiful spot on a bluff above a rugged beach this is a lovely escape. It is steps away from several woods trails. The unobtrusive owner went out of his way to make us feel at home.

I couldn’t recommend somewhere to stay home! The room was private, clean and quiet, and gave us some of the most beautiful views we had on our trip. The host provided everything we could need and more. If we return in the future we will most definitely look to book here!

Just the birds and the waves
This is the cleanest property I have ever stayed in. And 99% or more of the time the only thing I could hear were the birds and the waves. John has thought of everything a guest might want. Highly recommend this place.

Restful Getaway
The property and experience as a whole were exactly as described - a comfortable room and bathroom with enough kitchen amenities to get by (coffee maker, mini fridge, kettle, microwave). The real star is the deck! I'll admit I spent most of my stay parked on one of the Adirondacks looking at a spectacular view of the Pacific. John was communicative and conscientious of ensuring that I had all that I needed for my stay. Highly recommend!

John goes out of his way to make it great
Really nice place, the photo is exactly what we saw out the window (well, no wine glasses on the outside table but flowers were on the table). Loaf of local French bread, butter, hard boiled eggs, all the kitchenware needed (not a full kitchen),. He's very respectful of our privacy although for some reason we couldn't text him to let him know when the dishes were ready to be picked up, etc.

I’m glad you two enjoyed your stay. I’ve no idea why your service and/or phone would not allow you to send texts and you didn’t indicate who is your phone service provider. Most, including me get only 1-2 bars of phone service in this area but is always strong enough to send and receive texts. And all other guests are always able to send texts over Wi-Fi. My internet service here is fantastic and the Wi-Fi on my router is very strong. Regardless, you were able to send emails to me and that seemed to work just fine. Perhaps it’s a setting on your hardware? Anyway, thank you for being such great guests!

Simply amazing
This property will exceed whatever you expect. Seeing the spectacular views of the jetted coast, the trail to the beach swing, the nearby Redwoods National Park are healing in nature. The property owner lives upstairs and communicates through text will promptness and hospitality. The city of Trinidad is full of hospitality and charm. Definitely going back.

Beautiful and peaceful stay
My mom and I wanted a peaceful getaway weekend and that's exactly what we got. This property is AMAZING. Ocean views and beautiful trees everywhere. The trail down to the ocean is well worth the trek. Gracious host. Clean, all necessary amenities no TV (big plus) good wifi. Highly recommend.

Beautiful retreat
This was an absolutely perfect place to stay. The walking trail down to the beach was gorgeous and the house is so close to the redwood forest and other attractions. It was very relaxing. It rained all night our second night and we just watched movies in the house on our laptop and ate pizza from a local place called Headies. It was exactly the relaxing vacation I was looking for.

Cozy & Comfortable!
Enjoyed our stay! We came for the scenery, which in the redwoods did not disappoint. We didn't get quite the view in the photos due to the fog, but the host certainly cannot control the weather. We loved the hike down to the beach, though I was glad to have my trekking poles, as it was indeed muddy as described. Easy check-in, nice touches from the host as others have mentioned. Would stay again.
