"If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would in a heartbeat. The house has all commodities (the hosts even offered to help us with the laundry since the washing machine was out of order), all rooms are spotless clean and the surroundings are incredible, albeit a bit far from Nikko station.
The host was incredibly kind, making sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. I really cannot recommend this place enough, and when I visit Nikko again, I will not even bother searching for a...

"Our stay at Guesthouse Koundo was excellent. It’s a beautiful home located, in our opinion, in the best spot in Nikko as it is easy to walk to the popular areas as well as catch the bus to go up to the mountain. There are also wonderful neighborhood restaurants to try within walking distance. It’s in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by beautiful nature. We were kindly allowed to leave our bags early, which was a great help because we had a lot of luggage.

"The room itself was very nice, and it worked well for our family of 4. Everything is new, and the space is stylishly designed, which is sometimes hard to find in smaller towns in Japan.
The challenge is the property is a 10-15 minute walk, along a main road, to any restaurant or cafe, etc. There's a 7-11 nearby, but apart from that, you're alongside a busy road and a highway off-ramp ... and not much else.
If you have a car, this is no issue. But for us, with two young kids, and of course...
