    The Stables, Lydeard St Lawrence (Somerset) is tucked away in a secluded location on a farm, nestled between the Quantock Hills and Exmoor National Park, with wonderful opportunities for walking direct from the door. The property sleeps up to 4 guests in two bedrooms and is pet-friendly.

    Main Description
    The Stables has been converted - as the name suggests - to now offer warm, comfortable and spacious holiday accommodation across two-levels for up to 4 guests. Dogs are welcome.

    The entrance door opens into the open-plan living area which includes dining area, comfortable seating in front of the TV and well-equipped kitchen. Upstairs to the two bedrooms, en-suite shower room and bathroom. Outside there is a patio area, an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the views.

    Please note, due to the character of the property, there are some low door frames, a low beam in the main bedroom and sloping ceilings on the first floor so please take care.

    Indoor Description
    The kitchen is fitted with all electric oven with hob, dishwasher, under-counter fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, and washer-dryer. Other equipment includes toaster, kettle, a variety of kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses.

    A television is located in the living area, and wifi is available throughout the property.

    Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. The Stables has under-floor heating which can be controlled by guests.

    Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips.

    Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid, and surface cleaner will be present in the property. One or two toilet rolls will be provided per toilet.



    Outdoor Description
    There is a patio area with table and chairs directly in front of the property with quiet countryside views.

    There is another converted barn next door, which has its own separate access, outside area and parking. The owners live next door in the farmhouse.

    The property is accessed via the long farm drive which is narrow in places and lined by soft shrubs.

    Private off-road parking is available beside the property.

    Pets Description
    Dogs: Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome. Directly outside the cottage you can allow your dog to roam around as you like. Please keep your dog on a lead in the horse and sheep paddock. Once you are through the paddock feel free to let your dog off the lead if you wish to.

    Lydeard St Lawrence is a peaceful village nestled in a wooded valley between the Quantock Hills and Exmoor, approximately 8 miles north-west of Taunton in West Somerset.



    This is a quietly beautiful corner of Somerset where rolling farmland, ancient woodland, and the gentle slopes of the Quantock Hills create a landscape of great charm. The village has a fine medieval church, a traditional village pub -- the Bird in Hand -- and a strong sense of community. It is an ideal base for exploring both the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the wilder landscapes of Exmoor, which lies approximately 25 minutes to the north.

    Bishops Lydeard -- The nearest larger village, approximately 3 miles south-east. Bishops Lydeard has a village shop, post office, bakery, the Lethbridge Arms pub, and is the southern terminus of the famous West Somerset Railway. There is also a primary school and a doctors' surgery.



    Taunton -- The county town of Somerset, approximately 8 miles south-east. Taunton has a full range of supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Lidl, Aldi), high street shops, restaurants, a cinema, the Brewhouse Theatre, and Musgrove Park Hospital. The town centre has a pleasant pedestrianised shopping area and a lively indoor market.



    For specialist or larger shopping, Taunton provides everything you are likely to need during your stay.

The cottage was lovely, beautifully done up, very comfortable sofas and beds. Nice little outdoor area. There were a few minor issues as with any holiday let. Owners were very helpful before we arrived but once there any questions had to go to the caretaker who then asked the owner. The owners live on site but we didn’t see them at all. Maybe away? Our biggest problem was with taking our dog. She’ll only toilet off the lead, on grass. There is no grass by the cottage. Taking her through the owners paddock (on lead due to ponies and sheep which we knew about) and through the kissing gate as instructed, leads you to fields all surrounded by electric wire (which we found out the hard way as no signs). The only public footpath from this direction has a stile with no dog access. Going uphill from the kissing gate the public footpath had been blocked off with an electric fence. On asking the caretaker (who asked the owner) we were told that dogs can get through the stile but we checked and there wasn’t a dog gate. On the last morning we walked out the gate you drive in through and there are two public footpaths there. They are much more accessible for dogs. Had a lovely time and brilliant if you don’t have a dog, it was all just a bit annoying trying to work out where we could walk her. Would stay again with no dog.
